Beaufort Railway Station, Sabah
Beaufort railway station ( ms, Stesen Keretapi Beaufort) is one of four main railway stations on the Western Sabah Railway Line located in Beaufort, Sabah, Malaysia. History Railway construction in Beaufort started in 1896; the first construction of a minor station started at the Bakau River on the north east. Another minor station was built on the bank of the Padas River in south Beaufort on 1898. The main station in the town centre (which is the present station) was completed in 1903. Full operation service of the North Borneo Railway started on 1 August 1914. In 2007, the station was closed for renovation; the original wooden station building was demolished and replaced with a new concrete building. The present station began operation on 21 February 2011. During the 2015 East Malaysian floods, the station was severely flooded. Beaufort, Malaysia
Beaufort ( ms, Beaufort) is the capital of the Beaufort District in the Interior Division of Sabah, Malaysia. It was named after former British Governor Leicester Paul Beaufort. Its population was estimated to be around 12,742 in 2010. It is about 90 kilometres south of Kota Kinabalu and about 167 kilometres north of Long Pasia (one of the famous tourist attractions in Interior Division). It has shophouses built high above the roads to avoid the periodic floods of the Padas River. The population of Beaufort is composed mainly of Bisaya, Brunei Malays, Kadazan-Dusuns, Lun Bawang/Lun Dayeh, Muruts and Chinese (mainly Hakkas). Bisaya are the majority ethnic, and the population is scattered around the town. 2015 East Malaysian Floods
High intensity rainfall since 17 January 2015 caused major flooding across several parts of Sarawak and Sabah. Around 13,878 people had been evacuated with one teenage girl became the only casualty. Background According to a paper published by Malaysian Meteorological Department (MMD) in 2012 titled "Malaysia Climate Change Scenarios", the northeast monsoon has become more intense. There were drier months corresponding with heavier rainfalls in the past 10 years. Tenom Railway Station
Tenom railway station ( ms, Stesen Keretapi Tenom) is one of four main railway station on the Western Sabah Railway Line located in Tenom, Sabah, Malaysia. History Like most areas in the West Coast Division; the area around Tenom in the Interior Division is used by the North Borneo administration for agricultural purposes. To transport the produce to major towns, English engineer Arthur J. West import labourers from China to construct a railway line in 1903 in Tenom; which was later completed in 1905.
