Beaufort, Victoria
Beaufort is a town in Victoria, Australia. It is located on the Western Highway midway between Ararat and Ballarat, in the Pyrenees Shire local government area. It is above sea level. At the 2016 census, Beaufort had a population of 1,539. The town takes its name either from Rear-Admiral Francis Beaufort or a Welsh village in Monmouthshire. The area was once occupied by the Wadawurrung Aborigines who called the area 'Peerick' or 'Yarram-yarram'. History Thomas Mitchell passed through the district on his expedition of 1836. Early settlers in the area were the Kirkland Brothers and a Mr. Hamilton; the latter took up ''Trawalla Station'' in 1838. The station was taken over by Adolphus Goldsmith in 1841 and he developed the property into a rich grazing enterprise. Lake Goldsmith was named after him. Netball is a ball sport played on a court by two teams of seven players. It is among a rare number of sports which have been created exclusively for female competitors. The sport is played on indoor and outdoor netball courts and is specifically played in schools. Netball is most popularly played in Commonwealth of Nations, Commonwealth nations. The Ballarat Football League (BFL) is an Australian rules football competition that operates in the Ballarat region of Victoria, Australia. The competition formed in 1893 as the Ballarat Football Association and was renamed Ballarat Football League in 1908 and was briefly known as the Ballarat-Wimmera Football League between 1934 and 1936. Overview The league features 11 senior clubs. North Ballarat City Football Club joined the league in 2008 season raising the number of teams to the present number. Ernest Edgar Stubbs (28 March 1883 – 13 September 1955) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of Albert Charles Stubbs (1856-1922), and Maria Stubbs (1862-1939), née Hazelgrove, Ernest Edgar Stubbs was born in Ballarat East, Victoria on 28 March 1883. He married Eva Ethel Maud McDonald on 29 June 1925. Football On 4 July 1906, Stubbs was granted a clearance from Ballarat Imperial Football Club to play with Geelong, and he played his first match against Essendon on 7 July 1906. He played five games in all, with his last appearance in a team that was thrashed by South Melbourne, 14.17 (101) to 5.8 (38), on 4 August 1906. Stuart Atkin
Stuart Atkin (born 16 May 1957) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Collingwood in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the early 1980s. Stuart is the fourth son of a soldier settler family in the Western District of Victoria. He started his junior football with SMW Rovers (Streatham, Mininera and Westmere) in the Mininera League. Beaufort Football Club then playing in the Ballarat League recruited him in 1976 on permit initially. After only playing a half season in 1977 on permit he came third in the Ballarat League Best and Fairest (The Henderson Medal). He was initially refused a clearance from his former club until he decided to stand out of football rather than continue with SMW Rovers. After joining Beaufort full-time in 1978 he won the Henderson medal that year in the Ballarat Football League. Dean Chiron
Dean Chiron (born 27 March 1961) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with St Kilda, Footscray and Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1980s. Chiron spent his early career up forward or in the centre and kicked 12 goals in his debut season. The Beaufort recruit kicked a career best six goals in a game against Sydney at Moorabbin Oval the following year. He then crossed to Footscray but could only manage one appearance in the seniors, against his next club Melbourne. Jamie Bond (footballer)
Jamie Bond (born 12 November 1971) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Fitzroy in the Australian Football League (AFL). Bond was an Under-19s player at Hawthorn and joined the senior list when they picked him up in the 1988 VFL draft. He only played reserves football for Hawthorn in 1989, unable to break into the dominant Hawthorn team. It was with Fitzroy that he made his AFL debut, in round 17 of the 1991 season, against Melbourne at the MCG. He had kicked a goal and a behind from his three disposals.
