Beacon (band)
Beacon is an American electronic music group from Brooklyn. History Beacon was founded in 2011 by Thomas Mullarney and Jacob Gossett, both of whom were students at the Pratt Institute at the time. They began by self-releasing their first singles through the Bandcamp platform. Later that year, Moodgadget issued the group's first EP, ''No Body'', leading to tours with Gold Panda, Oneohtrix Point Never, and Tycho. In 2012 the group signed with Ghostly International, who released their debut full-length in 2013. A sophomore full-length arrived on the same label in early 2016. In 2020, Apple Inc. used the band's song "Show Me How" while launching a new MacBook Pro model at the company's November keynote event. Derwin Schlecker (born Derwin Dicker, 1980), professionally known as Gold Panda, is an English electronic record producer and songwriter. Early life Derwin Schlecker was born as Derwin Dicker in 1980 in Peckham, London and was raised in Chelmsford, Essex. He lived in Japan and studied at the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London. Career Gold Panda released several small-issue 7" records and singles in 2009, and in 2010 he signed with Ghostly International to release his debut full-length '' Lucky Shiner''. In 2013, Gold Panda released his second album, '' Half of Where You Live''. On 27 May 2016, Gold Panda's third album, ''Good Luck and Do Your Best'', was released via City Slang. Daniel Lopatin (born July 25, 1982), best known as Oneohtrix Point Never or OPN, is an American experimental electronic music producer, composer, singer and songwriter. His music has experimented with tropes from various music genres and eras, sample-based song structures, and elaborate MIDI production. He began releasing synth-based recordings in the mid-2000s and received initial acclaim for the 2009 compilation '' Rifts'', as well as the influential vaporwave release ''Chuck Person's Eccojams Vol. 1'' (2010). Moodgadget is an independent electronic music label with the mission of exposing the diversity in electronically made music. Founded in 2004 in Ann Arbor, Michigan by Jakub Alexander and Adam E. Hunt, the label began as an effort to popularize the founders' opinion that electronic music is a process, not a genre; within its walls live a diverse range of sounds, which would be documented over the course of the label's development. The label is based in Brooklyn, New York, with Jakub and Adam sharing label management duties. Alexander handles A+R and Hunt serves as the mastering engineer and web designer.
