Bavarian Film Awards
The Bavarian Film Awards (german: Bayerischer Filmpreis) have been awarded annually since 1979 by the state government of Bavaria in Germany for “exceptional achievement in German filmmaking.” Along with the German Film Awards, these are the most highly regarded awards for filmmaking achievement in Germany. The Bavarian Film Awards Gala takes place in mid-January at the Cuvilliés Theatre in Munich to honour films released in the previous year, and is one of the most glamorous highlights in the German film calendar. These awards are endowed with a cash disbursement totaling €400,000. The largest endowment, at €200,000, is given with the award for Best Producing, for "the single most exceptional German film that leaves the greatest overall impression." The other awards are each given with endowments of €10,000–25,000. Michael Haneke
Michael Haneke (; born 23 March 1942) is an Austrian film director and screenwriter. His work often examines social issues and depicts the feelings of estrangement experienced by individuals in modern society. Haneke has made films in French, German, and English and has worked in television and theatre, as well as cinema. He also teaches film direction at the Film Academy Vienna. His directorial debut, '' The Seventh Continent'', won the Bronze Leopard at the Locarno International Film Festival in 1989. He later won the Grand Prix at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival for '' The Piano Teacher'' and the Best Director Award for '' Caché'' at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival. Detlev Buck (; born 1 December 1962 in Bad Segeberg) is a German film director, actor, producer and screenwriter. Life and work From his first short film at the age of 21 in 1982, ', he has remained one of the most important filmmakers working in Germany. His first feature, 1991's '' Karniggels'', put him on the international radar and since then he has continued to make both short and feature films. Robert Sigl
Robert Sigl (born 11 July 1962) is a German film director and writer. He attended the University of Television and Film Munich from 1981-1986. His short film "''The Christmas Tree"'' was shown at international festivals in Madrid and Berlin. In 1987 he started preparations for his first full-length motion picture ''Laurin'' in Hungary which he also scripted. ''Laurin'' was awarded the Bavarian Film Awards for best direction of a newcomer. At the age of 25, Sigl was the youngest director ever to receive this distinction. ''Laurin'' was shown at numerous international festivals, including Moscow and Málaga, and was released in Great Britain by the U.K. video label “Eureka Entertainment” and in Spain by Filmax. Sherry Hormann (born 20 April 1960) is a German-American film director. Hormann is best known for her movies ''Guys and Balls'' (2004), '' Desert Flower'' (2009) and '' 3096 Days'' (2013). Hormann was born in the United States, but moved to Germany in 1966, when she was six years old. She attended the University of Television and Film Munich (HFF) and mainly works in German cinema.
