Bauer (band)
Bauer is a band founded in 1999 by former Bettie Serveert drummer Berend Dubbe and based in Amsterdam, Netherlands. To support the debut Bauer album with live shows, Dubbe formed a live band and with member Sonja van Hamel, Bauer was presented as a pop-duo from 2000-2006. Together, they released three records. In 2000, Bauer won a Zilveren Harp (Silver Harp) awarded by Dutch organization BUMA/STEMRA. Metropole Orkest
The Metropole Orkest (Metropole Orchestra) is a jazz and pop orchestra based in the Netherlands, and is the largest full-time ensemble of its kind in the world. A hybrid orchestra, it is a combination of jazz, big band and symphony orchestra. Comprising 52–97 musicians, it is versatile across many musical forms, and is equipped with a "double rhythm section" – one for pop and rock, and one for jazz based music. History The Metropole Orkest was founded in 1945 by Dolf van der Linden at the urging of officials from Netherlands Public Broadcasting, which manages and subsidizes the orchestra. The name of the group was suggested by one of the musicians. Dolf van der Linden led the ensemble for 35 years until he stepped down in 1980. BUMA/STEMRA are two private organisations in the Netherlands, the Buma Association (Dutch: ''Vereniging Buma'') and the Stemra Foundation (Dutch: ''Stichting Stemra'') that operate as one single company that acts as the Dutch collecting society for composers and music publishers. History The Buma Association was set up by Dutch music authors and publishers in 1913, one year after the Dutch Copyright Act was passed. In 1936, with the arrival of the gramophone record, the replication of music multiplied. Zilveren Harp
The Zilveren Harp (Silver Harp) is a Dutch award given annually to promising musical talent. The award is very prestigious and winners are chosen by a different jury each year. The Zilveren Harp is given by the foundation "Buma Cultuur", which aims to promote Dutch music. The first award was given in 1969, and it has been presented every year since (except for the year 1972). Buma Cultuur also presents the Gouden Harp award, which is given to an artist for his entire oeuvre and Buma Export Award for acts which are successful abroad. Winners The winners are announced at the end of the year, but the presentation is usually in February of the next year.
