Bataan Heroes Memorial College
Bataan Heroes Memorial College (BHMC) is a private non-sectarian, co-educational college, founded in June 1979 in Balanga City, Bataan, Philippines. It is one of the four colleges and one university established by Engr. Sesenio Sanchez Rosales and Dr. Laureana San Pedro Rosales. The college was envisioned by its founders to serve as a monument to the defenders in the Battle of Bataan. History The college started operations during school year 1979–1980 with 293 freshmen enrollees in general engineering, maritime education, commerce, liberal arts, secondary teacher education, secretarial, agriculture technology and secondary education courses. Balanga, Bataan
Balanga (pronounced ), officially the City of Balanga ( fil, Lungsod ng Balanga), is a 4th class component city and capital of the province of Bataan, Philippines. It is south of San Fernando, Pampanga (the regional city center) and northwest of Manila. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 104,173 people. Balanga joined the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities in 2015. History Balanga was formerly a village of Abucay before it was established as a mission of the Dominican Order in the Provincial Charter of April 21, 1714, and later declared a vicariate on April 18, 1739, under the patronage of Saint Joseph. The Battle of Bataan ( tl, Labanan sa Bataan; January 7 – April 9, 1942) was fought by the United States and the Philippine Commonwealth against Japan during World War II. The battle represented the most intense phase of the Japanese invasion of the Philippines during World War II. In January 1942, forces of the Imperial Japanese Army and Navy invaded Luzon along with several islands in the Philippine Archipelago after the bombing of the American naval base at Pearl Harbor. The commander-in-chief of the U.S. and Filipino forces in the islands, General Douglas MacArthur, consolidated all of his Luzon-based units on the Bataan Peninsula to fight against the Japanese army. The Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) program is a college-based, commissioned officer training program of the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps. Origins A pilot Naval Reserve unit was established in September 1924 at St. John's College in Annapolis, Maryland. It let the Navy test the concept before establishing its regular units. In 1926, the U.S. Department of the Navy established the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps.
