Basket Flames
Basket Flames is a professional basketball association and sports club based in Vienna, Austria. The teams ''Basket Flames Union'' (originally Union Kuenring Flames) and ''Basket Flames WAT'' (originally Basket Clubs Vienna Juniors) founded the sports association "Basket Flames" at the beginning of the 2012/13 season. Since the conception of the association, the women's team of the Basket Flames has played in the highest league of professional women's basketball, the Austrian Women's Basketball Bundesliga (also known as the Austrian Slovak Women's Basketball League). Prior to this, the former ''Union Kuenring Flames'' team had also been playing in this league as late as the 2009/10 season. With more than 25 teams and over 350 active players as of the 2017/18 season, Basket Flames are Vienna's largest basketball association. Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, most commonly of five players each, opposing one another on a rectangular Basketball court, court, compete with the primary objective of #Shooting, shooting a basketball (ball), basketball (approximately in diameter) through the defender's hoop (a basket in diameter mounted high to a Backboard (basketball), backboard at each end of the court, while preventing the opposing team from shooting through their own hoop. Union Kuenring
Union Kuenring, mostly known as Union Kuenring Flames or ukFlames, is a women's basketball club based in Vienna, Austria. History Union Kuenring was founded in 1951 by Professor Ander. Eleven years later the club was taken over by Franz Mrkvicka and in the following three decades Union Kuenring rose on to a successful basketball club in Austria. The men's section seceded in 1975. The winners of each season are promoted to the Austrian Basketball Superliga (BSL), if meeting the league requirements. History The second division was founded in 2006–07, but that season just 4 teams participated. After that season the league was divided in three regional divisions. In the 2011–12 season all teams in the league played each other again. Before the start of the 2013–14 season, both the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga were formed to leagues with 11 teams. Since the 2014–15 season, one team that was relegated from the first league will start playing in the second division.
