Barratt Due Institute Of Music
The Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo, Norway, is a music education institute founded in 1927 by pianist Mary Barratt Due and violinist Henrik Adam Due. It is situated in Fagerborg in Oslo and is a private stiftelse, foundation which receives government funding for parts of its activities. The institute provides music education for many age groups, including infants and children, school-aged adolescents, and undergraduate and postgraduate students. The institute's motto is "''From music kindergarten to concert podium''," which sums up the philosophy that constitutes the foundation on which their education system is built. Eva Knardahl
Eva Knardahl Freiwald (10 May 1927 – 3 September 2006) was a Norwegian pianist, with a noted career both as a child prodigy and adult performer. Her debut with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of 12, in which she played three concertos (those by Johann Sebastian Bach in F minor, Joseph Haydn in D major and Carl Maria von Weber in C major), was received with rave reviews. Knardahl was a student of Mary Barrat Due, who was educated in Italy. Idar Karevold, a music professor in Oslo, said that Knardahl's Italian style was unique in Norway. She started releasing records early. One of her first recordings was Edvard Grieg's "Wedding Day at Trollhaugen", which was released in 1946. She emigrated at 19 to the United States, where she had a distinguished career with the Minnesota Orchestra for 15 years. Ørnulf Gulbransen
Ørnulf Gulbransen (born 19 December 1916 in Kristiania (Oslo), Norway – deceased 20 February 2004 in Oslo) was a Norwegian Classical musician (flute), married 1945 to the violinist Elsa Lilian Gustavsen (b. 1921). Career Gulbransen had for more than 50 years a leading position in Norwegian music. He was known as an outstanding flautist and flute teacher both in Norway and internationally. He had an immenses influence as a soloist, chamber musician and professor at the Norwegian Academy of Music, and was a catalyst for the growth and progress on the Norwegian music scene over the last half century. Annar Follesø (born December 29, 1972) is a Norwegian violinist. Follesø studied with Soon-Mi Chung and Stephan Barratt-Due at the Barratt Due Music Institute, and with Mauricio Fuks at Indiana University. In 1998 he won the violin prize at the International Summer Academy in Salzburg for his interpretation of Bartók's solo sonata, and his Bartók interpretations have won him wide recognition. Didrik Solli-Tangen (born 11 June 1987) is a Norwegian people, Norwegian singer who represented Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest 2010, Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 with the song "My Heart Is Yours". Ragnhild Hemsing (born 15 February 1988 in Valdres, Norway) is a Norwegian classical violinist and older sister of the classical violinist Eldbjørg Hemsing. Eldbjørg Hemsing (born 16 February 1990 in Nord-Aurdal, Norway) is a Norwegian violinist who has been since the age of 11, with her solo debut with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. Hilde Hefte
Hilde Hefte (born 1 September 1956 in Kristiansand, Norway) is a Norwegian jazz singer. Biography Hefte got much of her musical education from the well reputated Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo, Norway with piano as primary and vocals as secondary instruments. She played saxophone and clarinet for ten years when she was young, as an apprentice to her father who was saxophone teacher and musician. She was also trained as an actor, first with Alex Scherpf and later joining a Theater school. She also received an increasing number of roles at Agder Teater and at various other venues, including in plays like ''Fugleelskerne'' by Jens Bjørneboe, and ''Piaf'' by Pan Gam.
