Baron Rossmore
Baron Rossmore, of Monaghan in the County of Monaghan, is a title in the Peerage of Ireland. It was created in 1796 for the soldier Robert Cuninghame, with remainder to his wife Elizabeth's nephews Henry Alexander Jones (the son of Theophilus Jones and Anne Murray, eldest sister of Elizabeth; Henry Alexander Jones died childless before his uncle Lord Rossmore) and Warner William Westenra, son of Henry Westenra and Harriet Murray, youngest sister of Elizabeth. Cuninghame was a General in the Army and served as Commander-in-Chief of Ireland. From January to August 1801 he also sat in the House of Lords as an Irish Representative Peer. Lord Rossmore died childless (his death gave rise to the legend of the Rossmore banshee) and was succeeded according to the special remainder by his nephew Warner William Westenra, the second Baron. William Warner Westenra, 7th Baron Rossmore
William Warner Westenra, 7th Baron Rossmore (14 February 1931 – 4 May 2021), known as Hon. William Westenra, and nicknamed Paddy, was an Anglo-Irish noble, photographer and author. Biography Born at the family seat of Rossmore Castle, William Warner Westenra was educated at Scaitcliffe prep school and Eton College before reading Theology at Cambridge University. He inherited his father's title in 1958, by then his family's ancestral home had long been abandoned by this time, due to dry-rot, and they instead lived in a house on the estate. This was later destroyed by a fire started by the Irish Republican Army in 1981. Derrick Warner William Westenra, 5th Baron Rossmore (7 February 1853, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland – 31 January 1921, Rossmore Park, County Monaghan, Ireland), known as The Hon. Derrick Westenra until March 1874, was an Anglo-Irish noble, soldier, author and Orangeman. Biography The second son of The 3rd Baron Rossmore and Josephine Julia Helen (née Lloyd), he was educated at Rugby. Commissioned a lieutenant in the Monaghan Militia, he resigned effective 4 December 1872, when he was made a sub-lieutenant in the 9th Lancers, replacing the controversial Sub-Lieutenant Tribe. Warner William Westenra, 2nd Baron Rossmore (14 October 1765 – 10 August 1842), was an Anglo-Irish landowner and politician. Background and education Westenra was the son of Henry Westenra, Member of Parliament for County Monaghan, by Harriet Murray, daughter of Colonel John Murray, also Member of Parliament for County Monaghan. He was educated at Trinity College Dublin. Public life Westenra was returned to the Irish House of Commons for County Monaghan in August 1800, a seat he held until December of that year, when the Irish Parliament was abolished. William Maynard Sinton JP (1 February 1860 – 31 December 1942) was High Sheriff of County Armagh, an Ulster Unionist County Councillor for Armagh and industrialist. Sinton was the eldest son, and heir, of Thomas Sinton of Laurelvale House. His father founded the family linen firm of ''Thomas Sinton & Co. Ltd.'' ( flax spinners). John Westenra
John Craven Westenra (31 March 1798 – 5 December 1874) was an Irish Whig politician and army officer. Born in Walsh Park, County Tipperary, Ireland, he was the son of Warner Westenra, 2nd Baron Rossmore and Mary Ann Walsh, and the brother of Henry Westenra, 3rd Baron Rossmore. He first married Eleanor Mary East née Jolliffe, daughter of William Jolliffe, in 1834. After she died in 1838, he then married Ann Daubuz, daughter of Lewis Charles Daubuz, in 1842, and they had at least one /child: Mary Anne Wilmot Westenra (died 1894). An army officer, he at sometime achieved the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Scots Fusilier Guards. Westenra was first elected Whig MP for at the 1835 general election and held the seat until 1852, when he did not seek re-election.
