The Baptist Evangelical Church in Angola ( pt, Igreja Baptista Evangélica em Angola) is a Baptist Christian denomination in Angola. It is affiliated with the Baptist World Alliance. The headquarters is in Luanda. History The Union has its origins in a British mission of the Baptist Missionary Society and the founding of a church in 1878 in Mbanza-Kongo. It was officially founded in 1977. In 2008, it was recognized as a social partner of the State by the government due to its actions in the fields of education and health. According to a census published by the association in 2023, it claimed 415 churches and 174,218 members. Schools It has 34 affiliated schools. The Baptist World Alliance (BWA) is the largest international Baptist organization with an estimated 51 million people in 2022 with 246 member bodies in 128 countries and territories. Mbanza-Kongo
Mbanza-Kongo (, , or , known as São Salvador in Portuguese from 1570 to 1975), is the capital of Angola's northwestern Zaire Province with a population of 148,000 (2014). Mbanza Kongo (properly Mbanza Koongo or Kôngo in most acceptable orthographies) was founded some time before the arrival of the Portuguese in 1483 and was the capital of the Kilukeni dynasty ruling at that time. The site was temporarily abandoned during civil wars in the 17th century. It lies close to Angola's border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Born Again
Born again, or to experience the new birth, is a phrase, particularly in evangelicalism, that refers to a "spiritual rebirth", or a regeneration of the human spirit. In contrast to one's physical birth, being "born again" is distinctly and separately caused by baptism in the Holy Spirit, it is not caused by baptism in water. Baptist Beliefs
Baptist beliefs are not completely consistent from one church to another, as Baptists do not have a central governing authority.
