Band Of The National Police Of Peru
The Band of the National Police of Peru ( es, Banda de la Policía Nacional del Perú) is the ceremonial musical ensemble of the National Police of Peru. Considered the official band of the Peruvian state, it was activated in 1906. The band is notable for having the oldest music library in Peru. History The Band of the National Police of Peru was established at the suggestion of President of Peru José Pardo y Barreda as the Band of the 1st Battalion of the Peruvian National Gendarmerie on August 6, 1906. It had an initial complement of 40 musicians. On July 28, 1921, the band was named the musical escort to the President of Peru and, in 1940, by decree of President Manuel Prado Ugarteche, it was named the "official band of the Peruvian state". José Simón Pardo y Barreda (February 24, 1864 – August 3, 1947) was a Peruvian politician who served as the 35th (1904–1908) and 39th (1915–1919) President of Peru. Manuel Carlos Prado y Ugarteche (April 21, 1889 – August 15, 1967) was a banker who served twice as President of Peru. Son of former president Mariano Ignacio Prado, he was born in Lima and served as the nation's 43rd (1939 - 1945) and 46th (1956 - 1962) President. His brother, Leoncio Prado Gutiérrez, was a military hero who died in 1883, six years before Manuel Prado was born. Prado was born in April 1889 as the son of Mariano Ignacio Prado.
