Baltimore Chamber Orchestra
The Baltimore Chamber Orchestra is a mid-sized orchestral ensemble based in and around Baltimore, Maryland. History The orchestra's first performance was on January 29, 1984, under the baton of Anne Harrigan, with the orchestra focusing in its initial years on the "core" classical era of Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Schubert. People Markand Thakar became music director in 2004; he has led the orchestra at performances in China and New York, among other locations. Jonathan Leshnoff joined the orchestra as composer-in-residence in 2007. Guest performers and soloists with the orchestra have included Zlatomir Fung, Katherine Needleman and Madeline Adkins. Markand Thakar
Markand Thakar (born 1955, New York City) is an American conductor. He is music director of Baltimore Chamber Orchestra (BCO). Biography From the age of six, Markand Thakar attended the Juilliard School's Pre-College Division, where he was a piano student of Leonora B. Pardee and a violin student of Christine Dethier. He also studied composition privately with Suzanne Bloch and Noah Creshevsky. Additional instrumental studies during summers at The Quartet Program included violin with Charles Castleman, viola with Heidi Castleman and Paul Doktor, and chamber music with Josef Gingold, Norman Carol, Renato Bonancini, Samuel Mayes, and the Tokyo Quartet. Jonathan Leshnoff
Jonathan Leshnoff (born September 8, 1973) is an American classical music composer and pedagogue. Early life and education Jonathan Leshnoff was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey to Susan and Steven Leshnoff; his mother was an artist, and his father an engineer. For his undergraduate studies, Leshnoff attended Johns Hopkins University and Peabody Conservatory concurrently, earning bachelor's degrees in Anthropology and Music Composition, respectively. He went on to receive a Master’s of Music from Peabody, then received his Doctorate of Music from the University of Maryland. Leshnoff was raised observing Conservative Judaism. During his student years at Johns Hopkins, he delved deeper into his beliefs and began to practice Orthodox Judaism. The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra is an American symphony orchestra based in Baltimore, Maryland. The Baltimore SO has its principal residence at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, where it performs more than 130 concerts a year. Concert Artists of Baltimore is a combination chamber orchestra and vocal ensemble in Baltimore, Maryland. The group describes itself as being a 30-year-old institution entirely composed of paid professionals. This puts it on a tier above other non-BSO orchestras in Baltimore, such as the Soulful Symphony, Baltimore Choral Arts Society, Baltimore Philharmonia, Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, Peabody Institute ensembles and various academic orchestras. The unique nature of the group allows it to stage large orchestral/choral works at a level of quality only viable in-house for a few other institutions on the East Coast. Baltimore Philharmonia
The Baltimore Philharmonia Orchestra is a musical group located in Baltimore, Maryland. The orchestra is primarily composed of volunteers, though the organization's website also makes mention of being partially "semi-professional" in nature. The Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University is a private conservatory and preparatory school in Baltimore, Maryland.
