Balmaceda Airport
Balmaceda Airport is an airport next to the village of Balmaceda, serving the Aysén Region of Chile. The airport is west of the Argentina border, it is located 55 km south-east of Coyhaique, the regional capital. The Balmaceda VOR-DME (Ident: BAL) is located off the approach threshold of Runway 09. The Balmaceda non-directional beacon (Ident: BAL) is located on the field. Expansion plans In 2016 works to improve the airfield and expand capacity were commenced consisting of resurfacing the damaged runway surface, the building of a new 30 m wide parallel taxiway, a new control tower, expansion of the apron, and improvements to other administrative structures. These were made with an investment of approximately 27 billion pesos, much of which were national funds intended for the development of remote regions of the country. Balmaceda, Chile
Balmaceda is a Chilean village ( es, aldea) located south east of Coyhaique in Aysén Region. Balmaceda has around 500 inhabitants, and has Aysén Region's largest airport and meteorological station, Balmaceda Airport. History The first settlers arrived into the zone in early-20th century after being expelled from Argentina since the borders between Chile and Argentina were drawn in 1902. In 1917 Balmaceda was officially founded and was named after the Chilean president José Manuel Balmaceda. Balmaceda was initially one of the largest inland Chilean settlements in what is now the Aysén Region. Transporte Aéreo S.A. d/b/a LATAM Express (previously known as LAN Express) is a subsidiary of LATAM Chile based in Santiago, Chile. It operates few domestic flights for its parent. Its main hub is Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport. History The airline was established as Ladeco by Juan Costabal Echeñique on November 1, 1958, flying mostly internal routes between Chile's major cities. Initially, the company mainly flew domestic services, but later served international routes to the Caribbean and North America. El Tepual International Airport is a commercial and private aviation facility which serves the tourist area of Puerto Montt, Chile. It is one of the most important airports in Chile and is considered a gateway to the Chilean Patagonia.
