Baldwyn is a city located in Lee and Prentiss counties, Mississippi, located in the northern part of the Tupelo micropolitan area. The population was 3,071 at the 2020 census. History Located five miles north of Guntown, the main street of Baldwyn runs along the county line of Lee and Prentiss counties. Baldwyn has the unusual distinction of having been incorporated in four counties. It was incorporated by an act of the Legislature in Tishomingo and Itawamba counties on April 1, 1861. Lee county was formed from parts of Itawamba and Pontotoc on October 26, 1866, while Tishomingo was divided into Alcorn, Prentiss, and Tishomingo on April 15, 1870. Baldwyn is an outgrowth of the village of Carrollville: when the Mobile and Ohio Railroad was being built during the years of 1848 to 1861, it missed Carrollville by one and one-half miles and the citizens moved to the new town of Baldwyn, which was named for the civil engineer who surveyed the road through the town. Mississippi Highway 370 (MS 370) is a state highway in northeastern Mississippi. It is split into three distinct sections, with the first running from Ashland at MS 5 to MS 15 at Falkner, the second running from MS 4 in Ripley to MS 30 in Pleasant Ridge, and the third and final section running from MS 9 and MS 30 near Jericho to Kirkville at MS 371. Route description Western segment MS 370 begins in Benton County in Ashland at a large intersection with MS 5. It heads straight through downtown along Ripley Avenue before leaving Ashland and winding its way east through wooded hilly terrain for several miles to cross into Tippah County. Mississippi Highway 145
Mississippi Highway 145 (MS 145) is the designation for the parts of the old U.S. Route 45 (US 45) roadbed that the state continues to maintain or has designated. Those ten sections travel through Waynesboro, near Boice, through Shubuta, from De Soto to Meridian, through Shuqualak, through Macon, through Aberdeen, through Nettleton, from Shannon to Booneville, and through Corinth. Waynesboro US 45 was fully rerouted out of Waynesboro in 2004, and the old alignment became MS 145. MS 145 begins south of town at an intersection with US 45. Guntown is a city in Lee County, Mississippi, located in the northern part of the Tupelo micropolitan area. The population was 2,410 at the 2020 Census. Etymology Guntown is named for Virginia Loyalist ''émigré'' James G. Gunn ( d. 1826) who found asylum among the Chickasaws in present-day Lee County. History Union cavalry officers described Guntown as "a station and small village on the Mobile & Ohio road." The U.S. post office was established on April 13, 1866, marking the official launch of the service in Guntown. This was followed by incorporation on February 16, 1867, and appointment of the first mayor that year. U.S. Route 45 (US 45) is a major north-south United States highway and a border-to-border route, from Lake Superior to the Gulf of Mexico.
