These are the results of the men's singles competition in badminton at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing } Beijing ( ; ; ), alternatively romanized as Peking ( ), is the capital of the People's Republic of China. Matches were played using a best-of-three games format. Games were played to 21 points, using rally scoring. Each game had to be won by a margin of two points, except when the game was won by a player who reached 30 even if the lead was only 1 at that point. The Beijing University of Technology Gymnasium () is an indoor arena located on the campus of the Beijing University of Technology in the Chaoyang District in Beijing, China. Wong Choong Hann (; born 17 February 1977) is a former badminton player from Malaysia. He is the first Malaysian to win a medal in the men's singles event at the BWF World Championships. Currently he is the coaching director for the Malaysia national badminton team. Career Wong Choong Hann's career began with the 1996 Malaysia Open. The first tournament he won was the 1997 Dutch Open. He represented Malaysia in 2002, where Malaysia emerged runners-up to Indonesia in the Thomas Cup championships. Eli Mambwe (born July 18, 1982, in Kalulushi) is a Zambian badminton player. He won a silver medal for the men's singles at the 2007 All-Africa Games in Algiers, Algeria, losing out to the host nation's Nabil Lasmari. At the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Mambwe competed in the men's singles, as well as the mixed doubles event. In the singles, he was defeated in the first round by New Zealand's John Moody, with a score of 10–21 and 14–21. John David Moody (born 21 February 1983) is a New Zealand badminton player. In 2002 and 2004 he won the Fiji International, in 2005 the Ballarat Eureka International and the Waikato International, and in 2006 the North Harbour International and the Waikato International. Career In the junior event, he won the national singles title in 2002, and also the doubles titles in 2001 and 2002.
