BJTC
The Broadcast Journalism Training Council (BJTC) is an industry-led body offering accreditation to courses for aspiring journalists. History In the late 1970s, the National Union of Journalists was pushing for a more structured approach to training for broadcast. After a series of meetings with universities, the BBC and the Independent Broadcasting Authority, the Joint Advisory Council for the Training of Radio Journalists was formed, chaired by the retired Managing Director of BBC World Service, Gerard Mansell. This organisation was the forerunner of the BJTC. In 1987, Tom Beesley succeeded Mansell as chair. He continued for 23 years, before retiring in 2010. Other past Chairmen have been Marie Kinsey from the University of Sheffield and Martin Campbell, former Ofcom Chief Advisory. Ralph Bernard
Ralph Mitchell Bernard (born 11 February 1953) is a British journalist, and a former chief executive of commercial radio group GCap Media. Early life He attended Caterham High School in north-east London. Career He started his career as a journalist at Sheffield's Radio Hallam in 1975,http://www.mediacsrforum.org/_media/documents/gcap_media_AR_07.pdf before moving to Hereward Radio in Peterborough. In 1982 he moved south to launch Wiltshire Radio as programme director, becoming managing director in 1983. The National Union of Journalists (NUJ) is a trade union for journalists in the United Kingdom and Ireland. It was founded in 1907 and has 38,000 members. It is a member of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ). Structure There is a range of national councils below the NEC, covering different sections and areas of activity. There is an industrial council for each of the NUJ's "industrial" sectors – Newspapers and Agencies, Freelance, Magazine and Book, Broadcasting, New Media and Press and PR. Dominic Laurie is a former English business broadcast journalist. He was a presenter of business news on Breakfast, BBC One's morning television news programme and BBC Radio 5 and now works in communications in the private sector. Early life His parents moved from Northern Ireland to North London, where Dominic was born in April 1974. He grew up in Highgate, and was educated privately. He then studied French and Italian at Robinson College, Cambridge, during which time he spent a year in Rome teaching English at a secondary school.
