BBC Asian Network
BBC Asian Network is a British Asian radio station owned and operated by the BBC. The station's target audience is people "with an interest in British Asian lifestyles", especially British Asians between the ages of 18 and 34. The station has production centres at Broadcasting House in London and The Mailbox in Birmingham. The station broadcasts mainly in English, but has retained Sunday evening shows in South Asian languages. The Asian Network covers only the Indian subcontinent, with the rest of the continent – such as Japan and China – not covered by the station. The station's output consists largely of music and talk programmes. On Fridays at 4:00 p.m., the station broadcasts ''The Official Asian Music Chart'', compiled by the Official Charts Company and based on sales and streams across a seven-day period. BBC Radio WM is the BBC's local radio station serving the West Midlands. It broadcasts on FM, DAB, digital TV and via BBC Sounds from studios at The Mailbox in Birmingham. According to RAJAR, the station has a weekly audience of 236,000 listeners and a 4.5% share as of September 2022. History Until 2004, BBC WM broadcast from the Pebble Mill studios, in Edgbaston. On 4 July of that year, the station moved to the new BBC Birmingham city centre offices in The Mailbox. Its facilities include two broadcast studios, a talk studio, an operations and production area, and a studio shared with the BBC Asian Network. BBC Radio Leicester is the BBC's local radio station serving the counties of Leicestershire and Rutland. It broadcasts on FM, DAB, digital TV and via BBC Sounds from studios at St Nicholas Place in Leicester. According to RAJAR, the station had a weekly audience of 129,000 listeners and a 5.1% share as of September 2022. ''Nai Zindagi Naya Jeevan'' (''New Life'' (Urdu) ''New Life'' (Hindi)The title was often incorrectly translated as 'New Way, New Life') was a BBC television programme broadcast from 1968 until 1982. It was the first major programme for Hindi and Urdu-speaking viewers, and represented the beginnings of regular broadcasting in the UK for non-native English speakers. Fazle Lohani
Fazle Lohani (12 March 1929 – 30 October 1985) was a Bangladeshi journalist, television host, songwriter and film producer. He was best known for his popular Bengali-language TV news magazine show Jodi Kichhu Mone Na Koren, which aired on Bangladesh Television from 1977 to 1985, he has been stated as the forerunner of quality TV programmes. Early life Lohani was born in the village of Kaulia in Sirajganj District in the then Bengal Presidency, British India. His brother Fateh Lohani would also become a notable television personality. His sister Husna Banu Khanam was an educationist and Nazrul Sangeet exponent . Fateh Lohani (1920 – 12 April 1975) was a Bangladeshi actor, film director, writer and journalist. Education Lohani passed Matriculation examination from St Mary's Cathedral Mission High School in Calcutta. He completed his IA and BA degrees from Ripon College in Kolkata. In 1950, he went to London and completed a two years course on drama producing at the Oldwick Theatre School. He took film education as a member of the British Film Institute. . Career Lohani was involved in publication of the monthly literature magazine Agatya since 1949. In 1949, he joined the Karachi Radio and later, BBC. He returned to Dhaka in 1954 and started producing films and simultaneously, worked in radio, acted in drama and carried out the profession of writing. He was the first director of a feature film after the establishment of Film Development Corporation in 1957. Nurul Momen (25 November 1908 – 16 February 1990) was a Bangladeshi playwright, educator, director, broadcast personality, academician, satirist, essayist, translator and poet.Bangla Natyashahitter Itihash, the most authoritative reference book on Bengali theater He served as a faculty member in the capacities of professor and dean at the faculty of Law in the University of Dhaka. Nazir Ahmed (filmmaker)
Nazir Ahmed (1925 – 1 February 1990) was a Bengali filmmaker. He served as the founding executive director of East Pakistan Film Development Corporation (later Bangladesh Film Development Corporation) during 1957–1962. Background Ahmed was born at 17 Ashik Lane, Islampur neighborhood in Old Dhaka. Ahmed's grandfather Mirza Hayat performed as an actor for the Nawabs of Dhaka. His father, Mirza Fakir and uncle, Mirza Kader were actors as well. Ahmed's elder brother, Abu Naser Ahmed, was one of the founders of East Bengal Film Association in 1952. His younger brother, Hamidur Rahman, an artist, who later was the architect of Shaheed Minar, Dhaka. Ahmed completed his bachelor's from the University of Dhaka in 1942. RAJAR
Radio Joint Audience Research Limited (RAJAR) was established in 1992 to operate a single audience measurement system for the radio industry in the United Kingdom. RAJAR is jointly owned by the BBC and RadioCentre. RAJAR's predecessor was called Joint Industry Committee on Radio Audience Research (JICRAR). Prior to this, the BBC and RadioCentre's predecessor CRCA carried out their own measurements independently of each other.
