Buttstädt
Buttstädt is a municipality in the district of Sömmerda, in Thuringia, Germany. It is situated 16 km northeast of Weimar. The former municipalities Ellersleben, Eßleben-Teutleben, Großbrembach, Guthmannshausen, Hardisleben, Kleinbrembach, Mannstedt, Olbersleben and Rudersdorf were merged into Buttstädt in January 2019. Johann Samuel Schröter
Johann Samuel Schröter (25 February 1735, Rastenberg – 24 March 1808, Buttstädt) was a German Protestant pastor since 1763, who was also a conchologist, mineralogist and palaeontologist. He was a member of the Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. Schröter studied natural sciences as well as theology at the University of Jena. After finishing his studies he served as rector (academia), rector at the school in Dornburg. In 1763 he became a pastor in Blankenhain, Thangelstedt, and later on, a preacher in Weimar. Grand Duchy Of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach
Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach (german: Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach) was a historical German state, created as a duchy in 1809 by the merger of the Ernestine duchies of Saxe-Weimar and Saxe-Eisenach, which had been in personal union since 1741. It was raised to a grand duchy in 1815 by resolution of the Vienna Congress. In 1903, it officially changed its name to the Grand Duchy of Saxony (german: Großherzogtum Sachsen), but this name was rarely used. The Grand Duchy came to an end in the German Revolution of 1918–19 with the other monarchies of the German Empire. It was succeeded by the Free State of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach, which was merged into the new Free State of Thuringia two years later. The full grand ducal style was Grand Duke of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach, Landgrave in Thuringia, Margrave of Meissen, Princely Count of Henneberg, Lord of Blankenhayn, Neustadt and Tautenburg. Henry Lauterbach
Henry Lauterbach (born 22 October 1957 in Buttstädt, Bezirk Erfurt) is a retired East German high jumper and long jumper. In the high jump he finished fourth at the 1978 European Championships in Prague, Czechoslovakia and sixth at the 1979 European Indoor Championships in Vienna, Austria. He competed at the 1976 Olympic Games, but did not reach the final round; at the 1980 Olympic Games however he finished fourth. With a jump of 2.29 metres he missed out on the bronze medal by 2 centimetres; the bronze and gold medals were won by his compatriots Jörg Freimuth and Gerd Wessig respectively. Lauterbach was ranked sixth in the world that season by ''Track and Field News''. In domestic competitions, Lauterbach represented the sports club SC Turbine Erfurt. Ortrun Wenkel
Ortrun Wenkel (born 25 October 1942) is a German operatic contralto. She notably portrayed the role of Erda in the Bayreuth ''Jahrhundertring'' (''Centenary Ring'') in 1976 and was awarded a Grammy Award as a Principal Soloist in 1983. Career Wenkel was born in Buttstädt, Thuringia. She started her studies at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt, Weimar. Following her emigration from East Germany to West Germany, she continued at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts with Paul Lohmann (masterclass) and then with Elsa Cavelti. She began her career in 1964 as concert and oratorio soloist when she was still a student. She dedicated herself to Baroque music, and appeared at major international festivals (English Bach Festival, Festival du Marais, Flandern Festival, Holland Festival) and for concerts at the Salle Pleyel (Paris), the Royal Festival Hall (London), Tonhalle (Zürich) and the Wiener Musikvereinssaal.
