Bury Cricket Club
Bury Cricket Club is a cricket club in the Greater Manchester Cricket League (GMCL), which plays its home games at Bury Sports and Social Club on Radcliffe Road, Bury, Greater Manchester. the club captain is Gary Garner. History of the Club The club was founded in 1845, initially playing its cricket in the Townside district of the town. However, the arrival of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway required the club to seek pastures new. They then located to Foundry Street in the town, but this land was also required for development, with the building of Barlow's Mill in 1852. Once again the club had to move and found a site at Buckley Wells, currently Bury Grammar School's playing fields, where they stayed until 1922. In 1919, Samuel Roberts provided land on Radcliffe Road to be used for sporting facilities for the people of Bury following the end of the Great War. Cricket In Lancashire
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. Delroy Bertram Taylor (born 30 June 1975) is a former Jamaican cricketer. Taylor was a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm medium pace. He was born in St Catherine, Jamaica. Having played Youth Test and Youth One Day Internationals for West Indies Under-19s, Taylor made a single first-class appearance for Jamaica against the touring English county of Lancashire in 1996. In this match, he took the wicket of Michael Atherton in Lancashire's first-innings for the cost of 65 runs from 10 overs, while in Lancashire's second-innings he took the wicket of Warren Hegg for the cost of 35 runs from 7 overs. Lesroy James Irish (born 29 February 1972) is a former Montserratian cricketer. Irish was a left-handed batsman who bowled right-arm fast-medium. Irish made his first-class debut for the Leeward Islands against the Windward Islands in the 1996/97 Red Stripe Cup.
