Burnfoot, Hawick
Burnfoot (, ) is a housing estate just east of the A7, in the northern part of Hawick, by the Boonraw Burn, in the Scottish Borders area of Scotland. Wilton Dean and Stirches were also villages surrounding Hawick. Burnfoot was built as a council estate between the 1950s and 1970s and is now mostly owned by the Scottish Borders Housing Association and Waverley Housing, two social landlords in the Borders. It is the poorest part of Hawick, with relatively high rates of social deprivation in several areas, especially around Wilson drive and the Meadows, according to the 2001 census. Like many such areas in Scotland, it also has more than its fair share of antisocial behaviour, with many incidents around the Kenilworth Avenue shops. Scottish Borders
The Scottish Borders is one of 32 council areas of Scotland. It is bordered by West Lothian, Edinburgh, Midlothian, and East Lothian to the north, the North Sea to the east, Dumfries and Galloway to the south-west, South Lanarkshire to the west, and the English Ceremonial counties of England, ceremonial counties of Cumbria and Northumberland to the south. The largest settlement is Galashiels, and the administrative centre is Newtown St Boswells. The term "Scottish Borders" is also used for the areas of southern Scotland and northern England that bound the Anglo-Scottish border, namely Dumfries and Galloway, Scottish Borders, Northumberland, and Cumbria. Roxburghshire
Roxburghshire or the County of Roxburgh () is a historic county and registration county in the Southern Uplands of Scotland. It borders Dumfriesshire to the west, Selkirkshire and Midlothian to the northwest, and Berwickshire to the north. To the southwest it borders Cumberland and to the southeast Northumberland, both in England. It was named after the Royal Burgh of Roxburgh, a town which declined markedly in the 15th century and is no longer in existence. Latterly, the county town of Roxburghshire was Jedburgh. The county has much the same area as Teviotdale, the basin drained by the River Teviot and tributaries, together with the adjacent stretch of the Tweed into which it flows. Roxburgh, Ettrick And Lauderdale
Roxburgh, Ettrick and Lauderdale (''Rosbrog, Eadaraig agus Srath Labhdair'' in Scottish Gaelic) is a lieutenancy area of Scotland. The lieutenancy area was created on 1 April 1996, when local government was reorganised across Scotland under the Local Government etc. (Scotland) Act 1994. Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire ( Gaelic: ''Eadraig, Rosbrog agus Siorrachd Bhearaig'') is a constituency of the Scottish Parliament ( Holyrood) covering part of the council area of Scottish Borders. It elects one Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) by the plurality (first past the post) method of election. It is also one of nine constituencies in the South Scotland electoral region, which elects seven additional members, in addition to the nine constituency MSPs, to produce a form of proportional representation for the region as a whole. The constituency was established for the 2011 Scottish Parliament election, and covers parts of the former constituencies of Tweeddale, Ettrick and Lauderdale and Roxburgh and Berwickshire. A7 Road (Great Britain)
The A7 is a major road, partly a trunk road, that connects Edinburgh in Central Scotland to Carlisle in North West England. The A7 meets the M6 motorway close to Carlisle, which connects to the English motorway network. Route description Edinburgh to Hawick The northern terminus of the A7 is the junction at North Bridge with Princes Street in Edinburgh, also the northern terminus of the A1 and the southern terminus of the A900. The road passes Cameron Toll, before meeting the Edinburgh City Bypass at the Sheriffhall Roundabout. South of the bypass, the A7 continues through Midlothian past Newtongrange and Gorebridge. Hawick
Hawick ( ; ; ) is a town in the Scottish Borders council areas of Scotland, council area and counties of Scotland, historic county of Roxburghshire in the east Southern Uplands of Scotland. It is south-west of Jedburgh and south-south-east of Selkirk, Scottish Borders, Selkirk. It is one of the furthest towns from the sea in Scotland, in the heart of Teviotdale, and is the biggest town in Roxburghshire. Wilton Dean is a village in the Scottish Borders area of Scotland, on the Cala Burn, and close to the River Teviot. Stirches is an area of Hawick in the Scottish Borders, mostly consisting of ex-council housing built in 1973. It is often considered to be one of the more desirable housing schemes in the town.
