Burj Nahaar
The Burj Nahaar, is a horse race run over a distance of 1,600 metres (one mile) on dirt in March at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai. The race is named after the Burj Nahar, a fortified tower on Dubai's old city walls. The Burj Nahaar was first contested in 2002 at Nad Al Sheba Racecourse. It became a Listed race in 2005 and was elevated to Group 3 level a year later. The race was relocated to Meydan in 2010 where it was run on a synthetic Tapeta surface before reverting to dirt in 2015. Meydan Racecourse
Meydan Racecourse is a racecourse in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The grandstand is over a mile in length, and can accommodate over 60,000 spectators. Meydan opened on 27 March 2010, replacing Nad Al Sheba Racecourse, which formerly occupied the same site. It includes a horse racing museum, gallery and five-star hotel and nine-hole golf course. When not in use for racing it serves as a business and conference centre. The track's interior was also used as a filming location for the film ''Star Trek Beyond'', depicting the docking bay where the USS ''Enterprise'' is moored, including the bar scene during the film's climax which contains a ship construction bay. Ted Durcan
Thomas Edward Durcan (born 25 February 1973) is a retired, two-time British Classic-winning Irish jockey. He was champion jockey in the United Arab Emirates on seven occasions and rode over 1,000 winners in Great Britain in career lasting from 1992 to 2017. Career Durcan was born in County Mayo, Ireland, and went to boarding school in Naas. The school held him back from a riding career for sometime, as it prevented him riding out for stables. Naas had its own racecourse, and several others within easy reach, so although it was against rules for boys to visit the course, his headmaster tolerated it. After leaving, Durcan joined trainer Jim Bolger as apprentice at the same time as Tony McCoy His first Group 1 victory came in the 2003 Haydock Sprint Cup on Somnus. Jim Crowley is a flat jockey riding in Great Britain and was British flat racing Champion Jockey in 2016. History Jim Crowley (Born 14 July 1978) comes from Ascot, Berkshire, Ascot and after beginning his horse racing career as an amateur flat race jockey he switched to National Hunt racing, riding for the stable of Sue Smith (trainer), Sue Smith. Pat Dobbs
Pat Dobbs (born 1978) is a Group 1 winning Irish jockey. He is stable jockey for Richard Hannon Jr. Career Dobbs was born and brought up into a non-racing family in County Wexford, Ireland. He found racing an enjoyable alternative to school and after entering the apprentices' school in Kildare at 15, he was placed with trainer Dessie Hughes, where he spent three years. Hughes had few flat horses, however, so, at the recommendation of Dessie's son, Richard Hughes, Dobbs got a job with Richard Hannon Sr. in England. He rode for Richard Sr until the older man's retirement and has continued to ride for his son, Richard Jr since. Paul Hanagan
Paul Hanagan (born 8 September 1980 in Warrington, Cheshire) is a leading British flat horse racing jockey. Hanagan has twice been crowned champion jockey on the flat in Britain, riding 165 winners in 2011 to defend his title, having won his first title with 191 winners in 2010. Richard Hills (jockey)
Richard Hills (born 22 January 1963) is a retired flat racing jockey. He is twin brother to Michael Hills (also a jockey) and their father is former racehorse trainer Barry Hills. The twins' older brother John Hills was also a trainer. They also have two younger brothers, Charles Hills (who has succeeded their father Barry as a racehorse trainer) and George Hills who works in the Breeding and Insurance side of the industry in Kentucky, United States. Richard enjoys breeding ducks, Persian Cats and plane spotting. Richard Hills rode his first winner, ''Border Dawn'', at Doncaster Racecourse on 26 October 1979. Kerrin McEvoy (born 28 October 1980) is an Australian jockey who is best known for winning three Melbourne Cups. In Europe, McEvoy rode several big winners for Godolphin including Rule of Law in the St Leger Stakes at Doncaster in 2004 and Ibn Khaldun in the Racing Post Trophy, also at Doncaster in 2007. Johnny Murtagh (born 14 May 1970) is an Irish flat racing trainer and former jockey from Bohermeen, near Navan, Kells, County Meath.
