Bulloo Downs Station most commonly referred to as Bulloo Downs is a pastoral lease that operates as a cattle station in the Shire of Bulloo, Queensland, Australia. It is located on the traditional lands of the Bitjara. It is situated about north east east of Tibooburra and west of Hungerford in the Channel Country of south west Queensland. The property encompasses a portion of the Bulloo River and its floodplains. The property adjoins Naryilco Station. The property occupies an area of and in 2010 was owned by the Gibson family. Mick and Marie Gibson acquired Bulloo Downs in 2004 paying 20 million for the property following the breakup of the Stanbroke Pastoral Company by Peter Menegazzo. Bulloo River
The Bulloo River is an isolated drainage system in western Queensland, central Australia. Its floodplain, which extends into northern New South Wales, is an important area for waterbirds when inundated. It comprises most of the Bulloo-Bancannia drainage basin. Description The Bulloo is the only river in the region not part of either the Murray–Darling basin or the Lake Eyre basin; instead it flows into several ephemeral lakes which are blocked by low hills from reaching the Lake Frome, the Paroo River or the Lake Bancannia systems. In its lowest reaches, which extend to near Tibooburra, New South Wales, is the distributary known as Bella Creek. Sir Sidney Kidman (9 May 18572 September 1935), known as Sid Kidman and popularly named "the Cattle King", was an Australian pastoral farming, pastoralist and entrepreneur who owned or co-owned large areas of land in Australia in his lifetime. Early life Sidney Kidman was born on 9 May 1857 in Adelaide, in the colony of South Australia, the third son of George Kidman (died December 1857), farmer, and his wife Elizabeth Mary, née Nunn. Kidman was educated at private schools in Norwood, South Australia, Norwood and left his home near Adelaide at age 13 with only five shillings and a one-eyed horse that he had bought with his savings. Peter Menegazzo
Peter Menegazzo (1944? – 2 December 2005) was an Australian grain grower and cattle baron. Born to an immigrant family of fruit and vegetable growers, Menegazzo was said to be an intensely private person who rarely gave media interviews. Menegazzo's father emigrated from Italy in 1925 to settle near Melbourne. Menegazzo helped build the family's fruit and vegetable merchant businesses across Australia. He later moved to Victoria, where he would become Australia's largest potato grower. In 1987, after a Cape holiday, Menegazzo moved his interests to beef and purchased several cattle stations, including Van Rook, Glen Ore and Warren Vale. In 2003, Menegazzo came under media attention with his purchase of Stanbroke Pastoral Company, said to be the largest rural transaction in Australia's history. Stanbroke Pastoral Company was a company once owned by AMP Limited that was once one of the largest land owners in Australia. Established in about 1964, by 2003 the company owned 27 cattle stations in Queensland and the Northern Territory controlling some of pastoral country. Properties owned by Stanbroke included; Augustus Downs, Davenport Downs and Tanbar Stations and in Queensland and Banka Banka, Brunchilly, Lake Nash and Helen Springs Station in the Northern Territory. The company was purchased in 2004 by the Nebo Group who paid 417.5 million plus taking on outstanding debts. Naryilco Station also known as Naryilco Downs is a pastoral lease that operates as a cattle station. Description It is located about north of Tibooburra and south east of Innanincka in the Channel Country of outback Queensland. It consists of mulga ridges interspersed with cotton bush and saltbush flats with large areas of Mitchell grass and other herbage. A large creek runs through the property which is also well watered by Lake Naryilco, Arramerterry and Yulamatina. The property adjoins Bulloo Downs Station. Naryilco is current owned by S.
