Bulgarian Railway Company A.D.
The Bulgarian Railway Company (BRC, bg, Българска железопътна компания АД, translit=Bulgarska zhelezoputna kompaniya AD) is the first privately held railfreight company to obtain a license in Bulgaria. Control of BRC is shared by five Bulgarian companies and one Romanian company, Grup Feroviar Român Bucharest. BRC's chairman is Vladimir Dunchev, who was formerly the general director of the Bulgarian State Railway Company (BDZ). On April 13, 2005, Bulgaria's transport ministry awarded the first private license to haul freight over the nation's rail network to the Bulgarian Railroad Company. The BRC locomotive fleet includes class 87 locomotives exported from the UK. Cargo consists of bulk goods conveyed by water, air, or land. In economics, freight is cargo that is transported at a freight rate for commercial gain. Grup Feroviar Român, or simply GFR, is the largest private railway company in Romania and one of the largest in South Eastern Europe. Founded in 2001, the company owns freight operations in Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, Greece Serbia, Ukraine, Moldova, Montenegro and Mozambique, and railcar production and maintenance operations in Romania, Hungary, Serbia and Ukraine. In 2010 GFR operates a park of over 13,500 railroad cars and 285 diesel and electric locomotives. In 2013, GFR bought a 51% stake in CFR Marfă, which was the freight division of Căile Ferate Române. Bulgarian State Railway Company
The Bulgarian State Railways ( bg, Български държавни железници, translit=Balgarski darzhavni zheleznitsi, abbreviated as БДЖ, BDZ or BDŽ) are Bulgaria's state railway company and the largest railway carrier in the country, established as an entity in 1888. The company's headquarters are located in the capital Sofia. Since the 1990s the BDŽ has met serious competition from automotive transport. British Rail Class 87
The British Rail Class 87 is a type of electric locomotive designed and built by British Rail Engineering Limited (BREL) between 1973 and 1975. A total of thirty-six locomotives were constructed, to work passenger and freight services over the West Coast Main Line (WCML). The type was developed in response to the need to add extra capacity to the electric traction fleet operated by British Rail (BR), in addition to the desire to introduce a higher performance electric locomotive than the existing Class 86, numerous aspects of which being incorporated into its design. The Class 87 fleet was operated as the flagships of British Rail's electric locomotive fleet until the late 1980s, at which point the Class 90, an improved derivative of the Class 87, started to come on stream.
