Budd (band)
Budd are an Australian rock band from Brisbane. They were originally signed to Fellaheen Records in the 1990s. Career Budd formed in 1991 in Brisbane, Australia. Although their lineup changed through the years, founding member and guitarist Jeremy Finlayson has remained in the group throughout. In 1992, they were announced as being signed to Waterfront Records. Instead, they released their first single "Helpmeswell" as the first release on Fellaheen, another label run by Waterfront founder Steven Stavrakis. Four of their EPs released by Fellaheen Records entered the ARIA Alternative Top 20 charts, but when their label closed down Budd became more of a "cult" underground band, with their releases becoming "obscure collectors' items". When Budd released their "Ovit" EP in 1996 they were likened to American metal band Helmet, a comparison the band rejected. Fellaheen Records
A fellah ( ar, فَلَّاح ; feminine ; plural ''fellaheen'' or ''fellahin'', , ) is a peasant, usually a farmer or agricultural laborer in the Middle East and North Africa. The word derives from the Arabic word for "ploughman" or "tiller". Due to a continuity in beliefs and lifestyle with that of the Ancient Egyptians, the fellahin of Egypt have been described as the "true Egyptians". A fellah could be seen wearing a simple Egyptian cotton robe called ''galabieh'' ('' jellabiya''). The word ''galabieh'' originated around 1715–25 and derived from the Egyptian slang word ''gallabīyah''. Origins and usage "Fellahin," throughout the Middle East in the Islamic periods referred to native villagers and farmers. It is translated as "peasants" or "farmers". Waterfront Records
Waterfront Records was an independent record label based in Sydney that released recordings by Australian bands during the 1980s and 1990s. History Waterfront records was started in 1982 by Steven Stavrakis who at the time was an employee of another independent label Phantom Records. The first release for Waterfront was the ''Careless Talk Costs Lives'' EP by JFK & The Cuban Crisis that was originally submitted to, but rejected by, the Phantom label. Stavrakis heard the recordings and when Phantom passed on it he decided to release it himself. Stavrakis was later joined by Chris Dunn who was instrumental in discovering a number of the acts that appeared on the Waterfront label. Over the next 15 years Waterfront put out over 170 releases. ''Inpress'' was a free weekly tabloid-sized music magazine (street press) that was published in Melbourne, and was released in the Geelong and Mornington Peninsula areas of Victoria, Australia. The magazine was published by Street Press Australia on a weekly basis every Wednesday. The magazine comprised three main sections: All music news, features and reviews fall under the ''Inpress'' banner, arts and film is covered by ''Interval'', and the central section is dance music/urban music and nightclubbing magazine ''Zebra'', which is also distributed separately from ''Inpress''. The magazine was created by Rowena Webber (later Sladdin) and Andrew Watt, with the first issue was released on 13 July 1988. Webber edited the magazine for the first nine years. Helmet (band)
Helmet is an American alternative metal band from New York City formed in 1989 by vocalist and lead guitarist Page Hamilton. Helmet has had numerous lineup changes with Hamilton as the only constant member. Since 2010, the band has consisted of Hamilton, drummer Kyle Stevenson, guitarist Dan Beeman and bassist Dave Case. Helmet has released eight studio albums and two compilation albums. After releasing their debut album, '' Strap It On'' (1990), on Amphetamine Reptile, Helmet signed to Interscope Records and released three albums for the label, including the highly successful '' Meantime'' (1992). Their next two albums ― ''Betty'' (1994) and ''Aftertaste'' (1997) ― were also successful, but did not match the critical or popular acclaim of ''Meantime''. Screamfeeder is an Australian indie guitar pop group formed in Brisbane in 1991. The band's original line-up was composed of drummer Tony Blades, bassist/vocalist Kellie Lloyd and vocalist/guitarist Tim Steward. In 1995, Dean Shwereb replaced Blades on drums. Darek Mudge later joined on lead guitar from 2001 to 2005, and eventually rejoined in 2014.
