Budaki Lagoon
Budaki, or Budaksky Lagoon (other names: Shabolatsky Liman, Shabolat, Budaksky Liman; uk, Будацький лиман, Шаболат, ro, Limanul Budachi, Şabolat) is a Black Sea lagoon (liman (landform), liman) in Bessarabia, southern Ukraine. Located in 18 km from the city of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi. The lagoon is separated from the Black Sea by the 80–200 m wide sandbar. The health spa urban-type settlement of Serhiivka, Serhiivka settlement hromada, Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi Raion, Odesa Oblast, Serhiivka is located on the coasts of the Budaki Lagoon. The temporary connection between the lagoon and the sea is organised via artificial canal «Budaki» (on the southern west), sometime via natural erosion (washout) of the sandbar. Canals or artificial waterways are waterways or engineered channels built for drainage management (e.g. flood control and irrigation) or for conveyancing water transport vehicles (e.g. water taxi). Shabo, Odesa Oblast
Shabo ( uk, Шабо, ro, Şaba, population 7,100) is a selo of the Odesa Oblast, Ukraine, situated at the Dniester Liman, some 7 km downstream of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi. It hosts the administration of Shabo rural hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. The Tatar village was established ca. 1500, called ' "the lower vineyards" (attested 1788). The name was subsequently simplified to ''Shabag'' and finally to ''Shaba / Shabo''. After the conquest of Bessarabia by the Russian Empire, the region suffered a population drain to the Ottoman Empire. Shabo in 1812 had been deserted by all but three or four families. Alexander I decided to re-populate the region, in 1822 inviting Swiss settlers of Vaud to cultivate the vineyards of Shabo. The descendants of these settlers inhabit Shabo to the present day, and Shabo wine remains famous for its quality. Dniester Estuary
Dniester Estuary, or Dniester Liman ( uk, Дністровський лиман; ro, Limanul Nistrului) is a liman, formed at the point where the river Dniester flows into the Black Sea. It is located in Ukraine, in Odessa Oblast, and connects Budjak to the Ukrainian mainland. The city of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi lies on its western shore and Ovidiopol on its eastern shore. Shabo, situated downstream of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi, is known for its wine. The estuary hosts the Bilhorod-Dnistrovsky Seaport. The area of the liman varies between 360 and 408 km2, it is 42.5 km long and has maximum width of 12 km. The average depth is 1.8 m, the maximum depth 2.7 m. On the spit separating the liman from the open Black Sea to the south is the resort town of Zatoka. Serhiivka ( uk, Сергіївка; ro, Sergheevca or ; russian: Сергеевка) is an urban-type settlement in Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi Raion of Odesa Oblast in Ukraine. It is located at the Black Sea coast at the opening of Budaki Lagoon, about of the city of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi. Serhiivka hosts the administration of Serhiivka settlement hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Population: Until 18 July 2020, Serhiivka belonged to Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi Municipality. The municipality was abolished as an administrative unit in July 2020 as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, which reduced the number of raions of Odesa Oblast to seven. The area of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi Municipality was merged into Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi Raion. On 1 July 2022, a residential building and a recreation center in Serhiivka were hit by Russian rockets.
