Bud VanDeWege
Edwin Jay "Bud" VanDeWege, Jr. (born April 24, 1958) is a former American basketball coach. He was the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines women's basketball team from 1984 to 1992, compiling a record of 93–132 (41–103 Big Ten) in eight seasons at Michigan. After leading the team to its first 20-win season and its first NCAA Tournament appearance, he was named Big Ten Coach of the Year in 1990. He is the second winningest head coach in the history of Michigan's women's basketball program. The Michigan Wolverines women's basketball team is the intercollegiate women's basketball program representing the University of Michigan. The school competes in the Big Ten Conference in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The Wolverines play home basketball games at the Crisler Center on the university campus in Ann Arbor, Michigan. History Michigan began playing intercollegiate women's basketball in 1973–74, when inaugural head coach Vic Katch led the team to a 3–8 record (0–1 against Big Ten teams). Gloria Soluk
Gloria Soluk is a former American basketball and softball coach. She was the third head coach of the Michigan Wolverines women's basketball team. She held that position from 1977 to 1984 and compiled a record of 66–120. She was also the first head coach of the Michigan Wolverines softball team, compiling a 49–25 record from 1978–1980. She previously served as the head coach of the Wayne State University women's basketball team from 1974 to 1977 and had a 45–20 record in that position. She was also the girls' basketball coach at St. Ladislaus High School in Hamtramck, Michigan for nine years. She led St. Ladislaus to consecutive state championships in 1973 and 1974 and compiled a 114–13 record as a high school coach. Bill Frieder
William Samuel Frieder (born March 3, 1942) is a former basketball coach at Michigan (1981–1989) and Arizona State (1989–1997). Frieder's 1985–86 team was the last Michigan team to win a Big Ten Championship until the 2011–12 team. Just before the 1989 NCAA tournament, Frieder announced that he would leave Michigan for Arizona State at the end of the season. Michigan athletic director Bo Schembechler ordered Frieder to leave immediately, and named top assistant Steve Fisher as the interim coach for the tournament. Schembechler famously announced, "A Michigan man will coach Michigan, not an Arizona State man." The Wolverines went on to win the tournament and Fisher was officially given the head coaching job. The Michigan Wolverines men's basketball team is the College basketball, intercollegiate men's basketball program representing the University of Michigan. The school competes in the Big Ten Conference in NCAA Division I, Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Sue Guevara
Susan Marie Guevara (born July 8, 1954) is the former head women's basketball coach at Central Michigan University. She previously served as the head women's basketball coach at the University of Michigan from 1996 to 2003. Sue announced her retirement from CMU on July 12, 2019. Coaching career Guevara began her coaching career as an assistant at Saginaw Valley State in 1979. After five seasons, she became a graduate assistant at Ohio State in 1984, become becoming an assistant coach at Ball State in 1985. Guevara spent a decade as an assistant coach at Michigan State under Karen Langeland, including as associate head coach in the 1995–96 season. In 1996, Guevara became a head coach for the first time at Michigan. Inheriting a program whose winning percentage in the past four years was under .200, Guevara led Michigan to four consecutive postseason tournament berths, which had never occurred in program history. Kim Barnes Arico
Kimberly Ann Barnes Arico (born August 9, 1970) is an American women's basketball coach, and the current head coach of the Michigan Wolverines women's basketball team. Previously, she was head coach of the St. John's University women's basketball team. She was inducted to the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame in 2020. Coaching career On May 7, 2002, Barnes was named the head coach at St. John's University. She was named the seventh head coach in the then 28-year history of the women's basketball program. She currently holds the record for most wins at the program and led the Red Storm to their first ever Sweet Sixteen appearance in the 2012 NCAA tournament.
