Coaching career

On May 7, 2002, Barnes was named the head coach at St. John's University. She was named the seventh head coach in the then 28-year history of the women's basketball program. She currently holds the record for most wins at the program and led the Red Storm to their first ever Sweet Sixteen appearance in the 2012 NCAA tournament. During the 2017–18 season, she became the winningest coach in
