Buckner International
Buckner International is a non-profit International Christian charitable organization. Founded as a Baptist organization it maintains a relationship with the Baptist General Convention of Texas the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, and the Baptist World Alliance though it works with individuals and organizations of all denominations and faiths. The organization is headquartered in Dallas, Texas and has annual revenues exceeding $74 million. History The organization was founded in 1879 by Baptist preacher R. C. Buckner in Paris, Texas. He felt the need for a local Orphans home and brought up the issue at a meeting of Baptist Deacons. With $27 raised he opened up the first home in Dallas, Texas in 1879. Baptist General Convention Of Texas
The Baptist General Convention of Texas (BGCT) is the oldest surviving Baptist convention in the state of Texas. It is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention and the Baptist World Alliance. In 2009, the BGCT began to also go by the name Texas Baptists to better communicate who they are. The convention's offices are located in Dallas, Texas, though convention staff are located across the state. The president of the BGCT is Jason Burden and the Executive Director is David Hardage. History There were Baptists among the first Anglo-American settlers of Texas, but under Spain (and later Mexico), non-Catholic religious worship was prohibited. Cooperative Baptist Fellowship
The Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF) is a Baptist Christian denomination in the United States. It is affiliated with the Baptist World Alliance. The headquarters is in Decatur, Georgia. History The Cooperative Baptist Association has its origins in a meeting in Atlanta in 1990 of a group of moderate churches of the Southern Baptist Convention at odds with the denomination for its conservatism on issues such as opposition to the ordination of women. It was officially founded in 1991. As of 1996, the association had 1,400 churches and was still affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. In 1998, it began ordaining chaplains. Howard Payne University is a private Baptist university in Brownwood, Texas. It is affiliated with the Baptist General Convention of Texas. Howard Payne College was founded by Reverend Noah T. Byers and Dr. John David Robnett in 1889. The institution is named for its first major benefactor, Edward Howard Payne, who was the brother-in-law of Robnett.
