Buckhurst Hill County High School
Buckhurst Hill County High School, BHCHS, (1938–1989) was a secondary school in Chigwell, Essex. History It opened on 15 September 1938. It was near to RAF Chigwell and the River Roding. In 1953 there were 549 boys and the staff consisted of the headmaster and nineteen assistant masters. Comprehensive It became a comprehensive in the mid-1970s. The school was combined with two other schools in 1989 to become Roding Valley High School, located on a different site. The BHCHS building was subsequently sold off by Essex CC and is now the home of an independent faith school called Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College. Former Pupils' Association The former pupils' association, ''Old Buckwellians'', is still active with 1600 members. Essex () is a county in the East of England. Sir Patrick John Thompson Vallance (born 17 March 1960) is a British physician, scientist, and clinical pharmacologist who has worked in both academia and industry. He has served as the Government Chief Scientific Adviser (United Kingdom), Chief Scientific Adviser to the Government of the United Kingdom since 2018. Stephen Street
Stephen Brian Street (born 29 March 1960 in Hackney, London) is an English music producer best known for his work with The Smiths, The Cranberries and Blur. Street collaborated with Morrissey on his debut album ''Viva Hate'' following the split of The Smiths. More recently he has worked with Kaiser Chiefs, Babyshambles and The Courteeners. Matthew Nelson (born 22 April 1967 in Loughton, Essex, England), better known as DJ Slipmatt, is a British electronic music producer and DJ. He was one half of breakbeat hardcore group SL2, who had a 1992 UK hit with " On a Ragga Tip". Biography In 1988, while working as an electrician and courier, Nelson obtained his first turntables and started playing hip-hop and house. He then founded a pirate radio station named "Raw FM" in London's East End, and in 1989 began his professional DJ career as DJ for the Raindance rave event. His first music production was in 1989 where Slipmatt collaborated with DJ Lime forming SL2. The single, "Do That Dance", was released in that same year. This was followed by the number 11 UK chart hit "DJs Take Control" / "Way in My Brain". The follow-up single, " On a Ragga Tip", reached number 2 in the UK Singles Chart in April 1992. Stan Newens
Arthur Stanley Newens (4 February 1930 – 2 March 2021) was a British Labour Co-operative politician. He was a Member of Parliament (MP) from 1964 to 1970 and 1974 to 1983, and a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from 1984 to 1999. Born in Bethnal Green, Newens was educated at Buckhurst Hill County High School. He died in March 2021 at the age of 91. Career Newens was a conscientious objector during National Service and worked as a coalminer in Staffordshire. He graduated in History from University College London, and became a schoolteacher. In 1949 he joined the Labour Party, and was still a member. The Bishop of Sherborne is an episcopal title which takes its name from the market town of Sherborne in Dorset, England. The see of Sherborne was established in around 705 by St Aldhelm, the Abbot of Malmesbury. This see was the mother diocese of the greater part of southwestern England in Saxon times, but after the Norman Conquest was incorporated into the new Diocese of Salisbury. The title Bishop of Sherborne is now used by the Church of England for a suffragan bishop in the Diocese of Salisbury.
