Bryson is a city in Jack County, Texas, United States. As of the 2010 census, its population was 539. Geography Bryson is located in western Jack County at (33.160523, –98.387805). It is situated southwest of Jacksboro, the county seat, along U.S. Highway 380. US 380 continues southwest to Graham, the county seat of Young County. According to the United States Census Bureau, Bryson has a total area of , of which are land and , or 7.64%, are water. The water area encompasses Lake Bryson, a reservoir northwest of the city. Bryson is in the Rock Creek watershed, flowing south to the Brazos River. History The community was first settled in the late 19th century. Originally known as "Mount Hecla", a post office opened under that name in 1878. Henry Bryson built the area's first residence, a log cabin, that same year. The community was later renamed after him. Graham, Texas
Graham is a city in north-central Texas. It is the county seat and largest city of Young County. History The site was first settled in 1871 by brothers Gustavus A. and Edwin S. Graham, primary shareholders in the Texas Emigration and Land Company of Louisville, Kentucky. The brothers moved to Texas after the Civil War, and after buying in then-vast Young County, helped to revitalize the area, the population of which had become badly depleted during the war. During that same year as when Graham was settled, the Warren Wagon Train Raid occurred about 12 miles north of the city. In 1872, the Graham brothers purchased a local saltworks, established the town of Graham, and set up the Graham Land Office. The saltworks were not a profitable venture, as the salt was too expensive to ship, and were closed in a few years.
