Webb Consolidated Independent School District (WCISD) is a school district based in Bruni, a community in unincorporated Webb County, Texas, United States. WCISD serves the unincorporated communities of Bruni, Aguilares, Mirando City, and Oilton. In 2009, the school district was rated " recognized" by the Texas Education Agency. History Prior to 1994 Webb CISD served only Bruni and Oilton. Mirando City Independent School District served the community of Mirando City from 1923 to 2005. Prior to 1994 all Mirando City children attended Mirando City ISD schools. After spring 1994, Mirando High School closed. Therefore, from Fall 1994 to July 1, 2005, WCISD served high schoolers from Mirando City while Mirando Elementary School in the Mirando City ISD served students from kindergarten through 8th grade. Mirando City, Texas
Mirando City is a census-designated place (CDP) in Webb County, Texas, United States. It is three hundred eighty-four miles southwest of Houston. The population was 166 at the 2010 census. The town gets its name from Nicolás Mirando, a Spanish land grantee. The population of Mirando City was highest in 1929, at an estimated 1500. The peyote cactus thrives in and around Mirando City and nearby Oilton, and is a clandestine source of income for residents. Peyoteros have harvested peyote in Mirando City for over a hundred years. Oilton is a census-designated place (CDP) in Webb County, Texas, United States. The population was 152 at the 2010 census. The community is within the boundary of Webb Consolidated Independent School District and is home to the Oilton Elementary School. History Oilton is located 32 miles east of Laredo, Texas. It was originally called Torrecillas Towers, for two limestone formations nearby. In 1922 the name was changed because that year, oil was discovered near the town, which also caused it to grow. Aguilares, Texas
Aguilares is a Census-designated place in Webb County, Texas, United States. This was a new CDP for the 2010 census with a population of 21. It is one of several colonias in the county. Geography Aguilares is located at (27.451627, -99.093233). The CDP has a total area of , all land. History Aguilares dates to 1870. It is named for the first settlers and ranchers, José, Locario, Francisco, Próspero, and Librado Aguilar. It became a stop on the Texas-Mexican Railroad in 1881 and was granted a post office nine years later. The population (thought to be a huge exaggeration) was given as 1,500 in 1910 – but four years later it was reportedly a mere 300.
