Brudenell River Golf Course
Brudenell River Golf Course is a public golf course located in Brudenell, Prince Edward Island. The course is an eighteen-hole course built by the provincial government of Prince Edward Island was originally opened in 1969. The course gets its name from the Brudenell River, which is part of The Three Rivers, as several of the courses holes lie along the river. The Brudenell River Golf Course shares the practice grounds and clubhouse with its sister course Dundarave Golf Course. History The Brudenell River golf course started out as a nine-hole course at the location of the current course. In the late 60s, a member of the Legislative Assembly, Lorne Bonnell, in conjunction with a group of the course's regulars, built the current course. Brudenell, Prince Edward Island
Brudenell ( ) was a municipality that held community status in Prince Edward Island, Canada. It was located along the Brudenell and Montague rivers. Brudenell Point, located at the confluence of the two rivers, was the site of the Jean Pierre Roma Acadian settlement in the 18th century, the first here by French colonists.. This small portion of Brudenell is now a National Historic Site of Canada called Roma Three Rivers. This French settlement built several significant roads on the island (which they called Isle St. Jean). These are still used today. After taking control of this territory from the French after the Seven Years' War, the English burned the settlement to the ground. Dundarave Golf Course
Dundarave Golf Course is a public golf course located in Brudenell, Prince Edward Island. The red sandstone based course was designed by two architects, Dr. Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry, and opened July 15, 1999. Dundarave has hosted golfers Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson during the 2006 Making the Connection - Legends of Golf event. Dunadrave Golf Course shares the practice grounds and clubhouse with its sister course Brudenell River Golf Course. History Dundarave Golf Course opened on July 15, 1999 after being delayed for about a month. The delay in opening of the course was a result of the dry weather which caused the grass to grow slower than expected. Lorne Bonnell
Mark Lorne Bonnell (January 4, 1923 – October 9, 2006) was a Canadian physician, provincial politician and senator. Born in Hopefield, Prince Edward Island, the son of Lottie and Harry Bonnell, he received his Doctor of Medicine from Dalhousie University in 1949. He practiced medicine in Murray River. In 1951, he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island representing the district of 4th Kings. A member of the Prince Edward Island Liberal Party, he was re-elected in 1955, 1959, 1962, 1966, and 1970. He was the Minister of Health, Minister of Welfare, Minister Tourist Development, and Minister Responsible for Housing. His grandfather, Mark Bonnell, was also a member of the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island.
