Bruck An Der Mur–Leoben Railway
The Bruck an der Mur–Leoben railway is a main line in Styria, Austria. It was opened on 1 September 1868 by the Austrian Southern Railway Company (''Südbahngesellschaft''). It is part of the core network of ÖBB Infra. The line is one of the most important railways in Austria as it forms part of the Vienna–Klagenfurt–Villach (–Lienz/–Venice) long-distance route. The line is currently operated by Railjets (or an IC train on the Vienna–Lienz route) every two hours. Line S8 (Unzmarkt—Leoben—Bruck an der Mur) of the S-Bahn Steiermark also runs on the Bruck an der Mur–Leoben railway. The route is also used by InterCity and EuroCity services on the Graz–Salzburg (–Germany) and Innsbruck/Zürich routes. Alternating current (AC) is an electric current which periodically reverses direction and changes its magnitude continuously with time in contrast to direct current (DC) which flows only in one direction. EuroCity, abbreviated as EC, is a cross-border train category within the European inter-city rail network. In contrast to trains allocated to the lower-level "IC" (InterCity) category, EC trains are international services that meet 20 criteria covering comfort, speed, food service, and cleanliness. Each EC train is operated by more than one European Union or Swiss rail company, under a multilateral co-operative arrangement, and all EC trains link important European cities with each other. The EuroCity label replaced the older Trans Europ Express (TEE) name for border-crossing trains in Europe. S-Bahn Steiermark
The Styria S-Bahn (german: S-Bahn Steiermark), initially also known as "Graz S-Bahn", is a local transport project that connects the metropolitan area of Graz and the central region of Upper Styria of the Austrian state of Styria. Bruck An Der Mur
Bruck an der Mur is a city of some 13,500 people located in the district Bruck-Mürzzuschlag, in the Austrian state of Styria. It is located at the confluence of the Mur and Mürz Rivers. Its manufacturing includes metal products and paper. Bruck is located on the Graz to Vienna main line, and is an important regional rail junction. History The earliest surviving record of Bruck dates from the time of King Ludovicus II "Germanicus", when it was identified, in a record dated 20 November 860, as "ad pruccam", a manor of the archbishopric of Salzburg. The settlement then identified with this name was in the location currently occupied by the suburb now called "St. Ruprecht". The settlement then located at what is now the centre of Bruck is identified in the ninth century record as "muorica kimundi" (i.e. the mouth of the Mürz River). Leoben () is a Styrian city in central Austria, located on the Mur river. With a population of about 25,000 it is a local industrial centre and hosts the University of Leoben, which specialises in mining. The Peace of Leoben, an armistice between Austria and France preliminary to the Treaty of Campo Formio, was signed in Leoben in 1797.
