Broek Op Langedijk
Broek op Langedijk (West Frisian Dutch: ''Broek op Lengedìk'') is a village in the municipality of Dijk en Waard in the province of North Holland, the Netherlands. History The village was first mentioned in the 12th century as 1420 Broec, and means "swampy land on the long dike". Broek op Langedijk developed along the dike as a linear settlement. The swamp was cultivated and the so-called empire of a thousand islands was formed. The islands were used to grow cabbage and in 1887, an auction house was established in Broek op Langedijk. The Dutch Reformed church is a single aisled church with wooden tower from the 15th century. Around 1860, the front and tower were renovated. The auction house is a large wooden complex surrounded by water. It was built in 1912 and was influenced by Jugendstil. In 1968, the auction merged with the Noord-Scharwoude auction and moved. Broek In Waterland
Broek in Waterland is a village in the province of North Holland, Netherlands with a population of about 2,745 inhabitants as of 2021. It is a part of the municipality of Waterland, and is situated about 8 km south of Purmerend and 8 km northeast of Amsterdam. In the 17th and 18th century, the village was a popular residence for merchants and seafarers from Amsterdam. Due to its monument status, much of its history has been preserved. History Early years Many of the houses in the village date back to before 1850. Before 1940 there had been only limited housing development. This meant that many houses were divided to accommodate several families under the same roof. The church of Broek in Waterland was built before 1400 and was dedicated to Saint Nicolas. On September 26, 1573 the church was razed to the ground by Spaniards during the Eighty Years' War. Broek ( fry, De Broek) is a small village in De Fryske Marren in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 190 in 2017. History The village was first mentioned in 1482 as Broech, and means "swampy land". Broek is a stretched out settlement, and the signs use Broek-Noord (north) and Broek-Zuid (south), because the two parts are not interconnected. In 1840, it was home to 158 people. The current church dates from 1913. Since 2014, it also functions as a village centre. Gulpen-Wittem
Gulpen-Wittem (; li, Gullepe-Wittem ) is a municipality in the southeastern Netherlands (in the province of Limburg) with inhabitants as of . Gulpen-Wittem came into being after the merger of the municipalities Gulpen and Wittem. This took place after a request of both municipalities. At the time of the merger, both municipalities had about 8000 inhabitants, although Wittem was bigger than Gulpen. The town hall was situated in Gulpen, and has kept its function as town hall in the new municipality. The former town hall of Wittem was situated in a manor house in Mechelen since 1986, which is now being used as a "nursing hostel". The municipality is rural, with many castles, half-timbered houses and old monumental farms. Yearly, Gulpen-Wittem attracts many tourists from the entire country because of its relatively sloping landscape, especially during the summer. Laarbeek () is a municipality located in the province of North Brabant in the south of the Netherlands. It was formed in 1997 from the former municipalities Beek en Donk, Aarle-Rixtel and Lieshout (which included the village Mariahout). The name ''Stede Broec'' derives from ''stede'' (meaning city) and ''broec'' (meaning swamp).
