Broadway Theatre (Cape Girardeau, Missouri)
Broadway Theater, also known as the New Broadway Theatre, Fox Broadway, Kerasotes Broadway Theatre, was a historic vaudeville house and movie theater located at Cape Girardeau, Missouri. It was erected in 1921, and was a two-story, red brick building with a white, glazed brick façade. The building consisted of the theatre/storefront zone on the first level and a second zone with office space on the second level. The theater had a major fire March 31, 2021. Cape Girardeau ( , french: Cap-Girardeau ; colloquially referred to as "Cape") is a city in Cape Girardeau and Scott Counties in the U.S. state of Missouri. At the 2020 census, the population was 39,540. The city is one of two principal cities of the Cape Girardeau-Jackson, MO-IL Metropolitan Statistical Area, which encompasses Alexander County, Illinois, Bollinger County, Missouri and Cape Girardeau County, Missouri and has a population of 97,517. The city is the economic center of Southeast Missouri and also the home of Southeast Missouri State University. It is located approximately southeast of St. Louis and north of Memphis. Broadway Commercial Historic District is a national historic district located at Cape Girardeau, Cape Girardeau County, Missouri. The district encompasses 35 contributing buildings and 1 contributing structure in a predominantly commercial section of Cape Girardeau. It developed between about 1868 and 1965, and includes representative examples of Queen Anne, Mission Revival, and Art Deco style architecture.
