Murgenthal
Murgenthal is a municipality in the district of Zofingen in the canton of Aargau in Switzerland. History Murgenthal is first mentioned in 1255 as ''Murgatun''. The ''Herrschaft'' rights to the village belonged to the Counts of Frohburg until 1299, when they went to the Habsburgs. From the Bernese conquest of the Aargau in 1415, until 1798, the rights were held by city of Bern. Between 1640 and 1645 the Governor of Aarburg, Jacob Wyss, build the ''Rotkanal'' (Red Canal) which transported water from the head waters of the Murg river to the meadows at Rothrist. Between 1798 and 1802 it was part of the Canton of Bern. Since 1803 it belongs to the canton of Aargau. Until 1900 the village of Murgenthal was part of the municipality of Riken. Wigger (river)
The Wigger (formerly also called ''Wiggeren'')Article ''Wigger'', in: ''Geographisches Lexikon der Schweiz.'' Attinger, Neuchâtel 1910. Vol. 6, p. 632 is a river in the Swiss cantons of Lucerne and Aargau. It is an important tributary of the river Aare. The Wigger is around 41 kilometers long and flows from south to north for most of its length. The largest city in the Wigger valley is Zofingen. The river rises from the north slope of the Napf in the canton of Lucerne near the border to the canton of Berne in a height of about 1300 meters. There it is called Enziwigger. It flows through a narrow valley towards Hergiswil bei Willisau where the valley widens and flattens. Shortly after the small city of Willisau it joins with the Buchwigger and is called just Wigger from there. The valley widens further to a flat and broad plain. Zofingen
Zofingen (french: Zofingue) is a city in the canton of Aargau in Switzerland. It is the capital of the district of Zofingen. Zofingen is a walled city and home of an ancient monastic settlement. History In ancient times Zofingen was a settlement of the Celtic Helvetii. In later times the Romans built a manor. The Alemanni settled in the 6th century and formed one of the oldest parishes in Aargau. In the 11th century the House of Frohburg founded a canons monastery. The town was founded in 1201 by the counts of Frohburg. 1231 was the first written mention of Zofingen, which in 1299 came in the possession of the Habsburgs. In 1415 the Bernese conquered the city and in 1528 they introduced the Reformation. Since 1803 Zofingen has belonged to the canton of Aargau and has become a regional center.
