British Army Cricket Team
The Army cricket team is a cricket side representing the British Army. The Army team played 51 first-class matches between 1912 and 1939, although a combined Army and Navy side had played two games against a combined Oxford and Cambridge team in 1910 and 1911. In 1927 the Army played the touring New Zealanders, and in 1933 they played the touring West Indians. After the Second World War, for first-class purposes the Army team amalgamated with the Navy and Air Force teams to form the Combined Services team, which played first-class cricket until 1964. The Army team continues to play cricket at non-first-class level. The sides are managed by the Army Cricket Association which also runs under-25 and women's teams. The Army also have another team in Germany, known as BA(G). Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Royal Air Force Cricket Team
The Royal Air Force cricket team is a cricket side representing the British Royal Air Force. The team played 11 first-class matches: nine between 1922 and 1932, mostly against other branches of the Services, and another two in 1945 and 1946. Their home ground is the Royal Air Force Sports Ground, Uxbridge. A number of notable cricketers played for the RAF team in its first-class days. Their side for the first such game, against Rest of England at Eastbourne in September 1922, included no fewer than eight current or future Test cricketers: Jack Hobbs, Wally Hardinge, Frank Woolley, Percy Fender, Harold Gilligan, George Geary, Charlie Parker and Abe Waddington (though none of them were currently serving in the RAF). Officers Club Services Ground
The Officers Club Services Ground is a cricket ground in Fleet Road, Aldershot, Hampshire, England. Aldershot had been a small village until 1853, but was transformed following the purchase of 25,000 acres of land by the War Office for military training. Over the following two decades Aldershot was transformed into a garrison town, by 1874 a number of cricket grounds, including the Officers Club Services Ground, had been constructed for use by the various regiments garrisoned there. History The first recorded match to have been played there was in 1861 between the Knickerbockers and I Zingari. South Africa Army Cricket Team
The South Africa Army cricket team represented the British Army in South Africa, the Union of South Africa having not yet been formed at the time. The team appeared only once at first-class level. In January 1906, they played the touring MCC at Thara Tswane, Pretoria, the only first-class match ever played there. MCC batted first and declared after the first day's play at 480 for 7, and South Africa Army made 97 and 165 on the second day, MCC thus winning by an innings and 218 runs. Combined Services Cricket Team
The Combined Services cricket team represents the British Armed Forces. The team played at first-class level in England for more than forty years in the mid-twentieth century. Their first first-class match was against Gentlemen of England at Lord's in 1920, while their last was against Oxford University at Aldershot in 1964. Combined Services have continued to play cricket thereafter, albeit at minor level. They played only six first-class matches prior to World War II, but a further 57 afterwards, when the individual services had ceased to play at first-class level (apart from two matches by the Royal Air Force immediately after the War). Of these 63 matches, they won 7 (5 of them between 1946 and 1949), lost 34 and drew 22.
