Brighton Tigers
The Brighton Tigers were an English ice hockey club based in Brighton. The team existed from 1935 until 1965 and were one of the United Kingdom's most successful sides during that period. The club was based at the Brighton Sports Stadium (often known by its original name of SS Brighton) on West Street. The Tigers were members of the English National League and later the British National League. The club was one of the country's best supported teams with 4,000 spectators regularly attending matches which were held on a Thursday night. The Tigers' most famous victory was over the Soviet Union in December 1957, winning 6–3. The club won the first British Championship since 1930 when they defeated the Nottingham Panthers in overtime in 1960. Overtime or extra time is an additional period of play specified under the rules of a sport to bring a game to a decision and avoid declaring the match a tie or draw where the scores are the same. Grice Hockey
Grice hockey was a cross between standard field hockey and ice hockey played in the South of England in the latter half of the 20th century. Teams were mainly based in South London and Brighton with one in Chichester. History The ''Streatham Exiles'', playing on Sunday mornings at Tooting Bec Common, claimed to have originated the game of Grice Hockey 1957, arising out of many of the participants interested in Ice Hockey, and organising trips to Ice hockey matches. The first match in a newly formed South London Grice Hockey League was played on 12 April 1959 where ''Streatham Exiles'' drew with ''Tooting Bec Lions'' in a one-all draw. The Nottingham Panthers are a British professional ice hockey club based in Nottingham, England. They are members of the Elite Ice Hockey League. Their main team sponsor is the Nottingham Building Society. The Nottingham Panthers have won four league titles (two English National League titles, one British National League title and one Elite Ice Hockey League title), five Championships, six Autumn Cups and eight Challenge Cups during their history. Soviet Union National Ice Hockey Team
The Soviet national ice hockey team was the national men's ice hockey team of the Soviet Union. From 1954, the team won at least one medal each year at either the Ice Hockey World Championships or the Olympic hockey tournament. After 1991, the Soviet team competed as the CIS team (part of the Unified Team) at the 1992 Winter Olympics. After the Olympics, the CIS team ceased to exist and was replaced by Russia at the 1992 World Championship. Later that year other former Soviet republics (Belarus, Estonia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania and Ukraine) established their own national teams.
