Edwin Brienen (born June 15, 1971 in Alkmaar, Netherlands) is a Dutch film director, actor, producer, journalist and radio moderator. In German press he's often called 'the Dutch Fassbinder' because of the high production-level and style of his films. He lives in Berlin, Germany. Biography After studying philosophy and psychology, Edwin Brienen embarked on a career as a radio host at the age of 22. His programs for Dutch broadcasting association VPRO attracted a nationwide following. On television he starred in the underground series ''Ultra Vista!''. For television he directed the shows ''Buch, Burgers & Buitenlui'' and ''Hoe Hoort het Eigenlijk?'' with Theo van Gogh. In 2001, he wrote, directed, and edited his debut feature film '' Terrorama!'', a dark story about a group of dispirited people who seek out 'psychological freedom' by committing an act of terror. Terrorama
''Terrorama!'' (2001) is the first feature film of Netherlands, Dutch director Edwin Brienen. In 2002 ''Terrorama!'' won the award for ''Best film'' at the Melbourne Underground Film Festival and ''best leading actress'' at the Toronto Independent Film Festival (Esther Eva Verkaaik). Plot The film tells the story of six mental cases, trying to get rid of society's norms and values by kidnapping Gerard van Dongen, a well-known TV host. During an improvised TV show, the terrorists confront this Van Dongen with their darkest thoughts and emotions, resulting in violent excesses and extreme sexual behaviour. UK release Salvation Group bought the UK rights for the film in 2003. A DVD was scheduled for release on August 4, 2003, however was pulled back because of BBFC restrictions. ''Exploitation'' is a 2012 drama film written and directed by Edwin Brienen. The film celebrated its world premiere at the Lausanne Underground Film and Music Festival in October 2012. Plot Eva ( Eva Dorrepaal) auditions for a role in an obscure arthouse film. An anonymous, masked director (played by British actor Tomas Sinclair Spencer) creates an intimidating atmosphere. He dominates and humiliates Eva, forcing her into prostitution. She sleeps with a Jewish film producer named Josh (played by Jaron Löwenberg). When he refuses to help her financially, Eva blackmails him by threatening to tell his wife that they slept together. Back on the film set, Eva’s heading towards her own downfall. Alkmaar () is a city and municipality in the Netherlands, located in the province of North Holland, about 30 km north of Amsterdam. Alkmaar is well known for its traditional cheese market. The Lausanne Underground Film and Music Festival (LUFF) is a film festival and music festival devoted to underground film and music. It is held each year in Lausanne, Switzerland. The festival is organized by a non-profit organization (APCI – Association pour la Promotion de la Culture Indépendante). The organization's goals are to promote independent artistic projects and creations and to make those projects accessible to a large public. Wolfgang Petersen (14 March 1941 – 12 August 2022) was a German film director, screenwriter, and producer. He was nominated for two Academy Awards for the World War II submarine warfare film ''Das Boot'' (1981). His other films include ''The NeverEnding Story'' (1984), '' Enemy Mine'' (1985), ''In the Line of Fire'' (1993), ''Outbreak'' (1995), ''Air Force One'' (1997), '' The Perfect Storm'' (2000), ''Troy'' (2004), and ''Poseidon'' (2006). Early life Petersen was born on 14 March 1941 in Emden, the son of a naval officer. From 1953 to 1960, Petersen attended the Gelehrtenschule des Johanneums in Hamburg. He made his first films with an 8 mm camera while still at school. In the 1960s he was directing plays at Hamburg's Ernst Deutsch Theater.
