Written and edited by John McKenna and his wife Sally, the guides have won André Simon, Glenfiddich and Slow Food awards. Bridgestone
is a Japanese multinational tire manufacturer founded in 1931 by Shojiro Ishibashi (1889–1976) in the city of Kurume, Fukuoka, Japan. The name Bridgestone comes from a calque translation and transposition of , meaning 'stone bridge' in Japanese. As of 2021, Bridgestone/ Firestone is the largest manufacturer of tires in the world, followed by Michelin in France, Goodyear in the United States, MRF in India, Continental in Germany and Pirelli in Italy. André Simon (wine)
André Simon (28 February 1877 – 5 September 1970) was a French-born wine merchant, gourmet, and prolific writer about wine. Hugh Johnson describes him as "the charismatic leader of the English wine trade for almost all of the first half of the 20th century, and the grand old man of literate connoisseurship for a further 20 years". Biography Simon was born in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, France. At 17 he was sent to Southampton, England, to learn English, where he met Edith Symons, whom he married in 1900. Two years later he became the London agent for the champagne house of Pommery & Greno, based at 24 Mark Lane. Within four years he discovered his talent for writing, with ''The History of the Champagne Trade in England'' published in installments in the ''Wine Trade Review''. In 1908 he created the Wine Trade Club with friends, organising tastings and technical lectures that foreshadowed the Institute of Masters of Wine 45 years later. ... Glenfiddich
Glenfiddich () is a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky produced by William Grant & Sons in the Scottish burgh of Dufftown in Moray. The name Glenfiddich derives from the Scottish Gaelic ''Gleann Fhiodhaich'' meaning "valley of the deer", which is reflected in Glenfiddich's stag logo. History The Glenfiddich Distillery was founded in 1886 by William Grant (businessman), William Grant in Dufftown, Scotland, in the glen of the River Fiddich. The Glenfiddich Single malt Scotch, single malt whisky first ran from the stills on Christmas Day, 1887. Slow Food
Slow Food is an organization that promotes local food and traditional cooking. It was founded by Carlo Petrini in Italy in 1986 and has since spread worldwide. Promoted as an alternative to fast food, it strives to preserve traditional and regional cuisine and encourages farming of plants, seeds, and livestock characteristic of the local ecosystem. It promotes local small businesses and sustainable foods. It also focuses on food quality, rather than quantity. It was the first established part of the broader slow movement. It speaks out against overproduction and food waste. It sees globalization as a process in which small and local farmers and food producers should be simultaneously protected from and included in the global food system.
