Brian Wray
Brian Wray was a veteran Canadian musician and musical arranger. He had been a member of three major Canadian bands, Natural Gas in the late 1960s, Motherlode and Truck in the early 1970s. He also worked with Lisa Hartt, Freedom North, Moe Koffman, David Johannesson and other artists. In later years he moved more towards the jazz genre. Background Born Brian Francis Wray, coming from Montreal, he was an organ & piano player. He was once a member of the group Five of a Kind which also had a pre-Mashmakhan Brian Edwards in their line up. While he was a member of Natural Gas, he arranged the track "Eleanor Rigby", and arranged the band's hit "All Powerful Man". Joey Miquelon
Graham Lear (born July 24, 1949) is an English-born Canadian rock drummer, best known for his time with Gino Vannelli, Santana and REO Speedwagon. He was born in Plymouth, United Kingdom. Background In 1952 his family moved to London, Ontario, Canada. He began his professional career at the age of 13 with the London (Ontario) Symphony Orchestra. During his teenage years he practised, played and toured with several bands in Canada and the United States. ''Natural Gas'' is an album by Canadian jazz rock outfit, Natural Gas. It was their only album. It stayed in the Canadian charts for a period of time in 1970. Background Natural Gas' debut album was recorded at RCA studios in Montreal in October, 1969. It was produced by the group's managers, Pat Jaques and Fran White who the group met in March that year. It was also mixed in New York. It was released in January, 1970. It was released in the United States some time before it got a Canadian release. It was also a front page pick by music magazines, ''Record World'' and ''Billboard''. A party was held in January at Broadway Recording Studios for the release of the group's album. Carol McCartney
Carol McCartney is a singer on the Canadian jazz scene and a former Canadian beauty competition winner. Family and early life McCartney grew up on Verobeach Blvd, Toronto. She went to Gulfstream Public School and then later Emery Collegiate Institute. At the age of 16 her father entered her in the Miss Toronto pageant. She won the 1978 title and was the third runner up in the Miss Canada event. She got her Bachelor of Music Theatre Performance degree from Sheridan college in 1981. She has been the featured singer with the Toronto, Vancouver, Nashville and Detroit orchestras and at least twenty more. Her album ''A Night in Tunisia'' was very well received and was in good standing with the critics. She has had a street named after her. Domenic Troiano
Domenic Michele Antonio Troiano (January 17, 1946 – May 25, 2005) was a Canadian guitarist and songwriter, best known as a member of Mandala, Bush, James Gang, and The Guess Who. He also recorded music for film and television, often made guest appearances on other musicians' albums, and worked as a producer. Biography Troiano was born in Modugno, Italy, and his family emigrated to Toronto, Ontario during his childhood. He became a Canadian citizen in 1955. His first professional music work was in the early 1960s with a band fronted by Ronnie Hawkins. In 1965 Troiano joined a local Toronto band called the Five Rogues, which later found success as Mandala. The band achieved several hit singles in Canada, and played several times in the United States. Mandala disbanded in 1969, after which Troiano and some of the other members formed the new band Bush. Heat Exchange
Heat Exchange was a Canadian rock band who had evolved out of a late 1960s, blues quartet. They had a hit in Canada in 1972 with "Can You Tell Me". Nearly five decades later they would finally have their album released. Background They started out as Cloud, a four-man blues group that Neil Chapman had founded in the late 1960s. The lineup then was Neil Chapman on guitar, Marty Morin on Drums, Gord McKinnon on keyboards and Ralph Smith on bass. They later expanded the group by inviting in Craig Carmody on sax and flute and Mike Landford on vocals. Later they had to change their name due to another band with the similar name, The Clouds who had released an album. Thinking that the names were too similar, the name chosen was Heat exchange. ''RPM'' ( and later ) was a Canadian music-industry publication that featured song and album charts for Canada. The publication was founded by Walt Grealis in February 1964, supported through its existence by record label owner Stan Klees. ''RPM'' ceased publication in November 2000. ''RPM'' stood for "Records, Promotion, Music". The magazine's title varied over the years, including ''RPM Weekly'' and ''RPM Magazine''. ''Truck'' is the debut album by Canadian jazz rock band, Truck. Consisting of original compositions, it was produced by Dennis R. Murphy of Sundog Productions. Released in early 1973 on the Capitol label, it made the Canadian charts and hung around for about a month and a half. Background The possibility of Truck releasing an album was noted in an issue of ''RPM Weekly'' dated May 6, 1972. At the end of June was when they were to start work on the album with producer Dennis Murphy. According to the January 6, 1973 issue of ''Billboard'', Truck's debut album was to be released by Capitol in mid-January. CHLB-FM is a Canadian radio station that broadcasts a country format at 95.5 FM in Lethbridge, Alberta. CHLB is currently owned by the Jim Pattison Group. History The station originally began broadcasting in 1959 as CHEC at 1090 AM. It was owned by Southern Alberta Broadcasting, which later became a subsidiary of Shaw Communications. Notable radio personalities during this period included Bryan Fustukian, broadcasting as Vik Armen. From 1985 to 1992, Tim Hitchner worked as a radio DJ at the station. CHRW-FM (branded as Radio Western) is a Canadian radio station, broadcasting at 94.9 FM in London, Ontario.
