Brian Shillinglaw
Robert Brian Shillinglaw (1 July 1939 – 17 October 2007), also known by the nickname of "Shill", was a Scottish rugby union and professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1950s and 1960s. He played representative level rugby union (RU) for Scotland, and at club level for Gala RFC, and representative level rugby league (RL) for Other Nationalities, and at club level for Whitehaven, Wigan and Leigh. Shillinglaw served with the King's Own Scottish Borderers. Playing career Rugby union He was capped five times for in 1960–61. He also played for Gala RFC, for whom he played sixty five times, scoring fourteen tries. Rugby league Shillinglaw transferred to Whitehaven in 1961. He was then signed by Wigan in 1962 for a transfer fee of £5,500. He went on to score 25 tries in 42 appearances for Wigan. Shillinglaw also played for Leigh. Melrose, Scottish Borders
Melrose ( gd, Maolros, "bald moor") is a small town and civil parish in the Scottish Borders, historically in Roxburghshire. It lies within the Eildon committee area of Scottish Borders Council. History The original Melrose was ''Mailros'', meaning "the bare peninsula" in Old Welsh or Brythonic. This referred to a neck of land by the River Tweed several miles east of the present town, where in the 6th century a monastery was founded associated with St Cuthbert. It was recorded by Bede, and also in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle with the name ''Magilros''. This monastery and settlement, later known as "Old Melrose", were long abandoned by the 12th century. King David I of Scotland took the throne in 1124, and sought to create a new Cistercian monastery on that site; however the monks preferred a site further west called "Fordel". Borders General Hospital (BGH) is a district general hospital on the outskirts of Melrose, Scotland. It is managed by NHS Borders. History The hospital was commissioned to replace the ageing Peel Hospital at Caddonfoot near Galashiels. The South-East Regional Hospital Board approved plans for a new 375-bed hospital at the Huntlyburn site in 1986. The new hospital was designed by Reiach & Hall and built by John Laing & Son and was officially opened by the Queen in 1988. The Planned Surgical Admissions Unit opened in March 2011, affording patients a more suitable environment for routine surgical procedures. The renal dialysis unit benefited from a major upgrade in June 2011 which included an increase in the number of dialysis machines from six to twelve.
