Brian Karger
Brian Karger (born 9 February 1967, in Horsens, Denmark) is a Danish former international motorcycle speedway rider. Career He was a member of the Denmark speedway team when they won the 1991 and 1995 World Team Cup Finals. He also qualified for the 1992 World Final in Wrocław, Poland, where he finished 16th (last) with 4pts scored, including a win in his final race. He rode in Sweden and won the Swedish Elitserien in 1988 with Bysarna. He first rode in the United Kingdom for the Swindon Robins, after joining them late in the 1986 British League season. He later rode for Arena Essex Hammers and also for the Belle Vue Aces. In 1991, he helped the Arena Essex Hammers win the Fours Championship during the 1991 British League Division Two season. Also in 1991, he won the Southern Riders' Championship. After retiring he became a notable engine tuner. Gary Havelock scored 14 points to become England's first Speedway World Champion since Michael Lee in 1980. The 1995 Speedway World Team Cup was the 36th edition of the FIM Speedway World Team Cup to determine the team world champions. Denmark is one of the major teams in international motorcycle speedway, speedway. They are managed by Denmark's most successful speedway rider, four time Speedway World Championship, Individual World Champion Hans Nielsen (speedway rider), Hans Nielsen and the current captain is Niels-Kristian Iversen. Motorcycle Speedway
Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Speedway World Team Cup
The Speedway World Team Cup was an annual speedway event held each year in different countries. The competition started in 1960 and was replaced with the Speedway World Cup in 2001. Format From 1960 until 1985 each team consisted of four riders and a reserve. A final meeting was held after qualifying rounds, the winner being decided on total points scored in that final meeting. In 1986, the teams that qualified for the 'final' raced three meetings, the winner of each meeting being awarded three points, second place awarded two points, and third place awarded a point. The total points gained over the three meetings determined the champion. In 1987, the three meeting system was used again, but this time the aggregate points scored by the individual riders were added together to determine the champion. 1988 saw the championship revert to the original format.
