1995 Speedway World Team Cup
The 1995 Speedway World Team Cup was the 36th edition of the FIM Speedway World Team Cup to determine the team world champions. The final took place at the Stadion Miejski Polonii (Bydgoszcz) in Poland. Hans Nielsen (paired with Tommy Knudsen) won his tenth gold medal and in the process sent Denmark to their tenth title success and clear of England in the all time winners list. Speedway World Team Cup
The Speedway World Team Cup was an annual speedway event held each year in different countries. The competition started in 1960 and was replaced with the Speedway World Cup in 2001. Format From 1960 until 1985 each team consisted of four riders and a reserve. A final meeting was held after qualifying rounds, the winner being decided on total points scored in that final meeting. In 1986, the teams that qualified for the 'final' raced three meetings, the winner of each meeting being awarded three points, second place awarded two points, and third place awarded a point. The total points gained over the three meetings determined the champion. In 1987, the three meeting system was used again, but this time the aggregate points scored by the individual riders were added together to determine the champion. 1988 saw the championship revert to the original format. Rune Holta
Rune Holta (born 29 August 1973 in Stavanger, Norway) is a speedway rider. He grew up in Randaberg Norway, but has been a Polish citizen since 2002, allowing him to represent Poland in international competitions and was a member of their Speedway World Cup winning teams in 2005, 2007 & 2010. He has also won the Polish Championship in 2003 and 2007. In 2020, he rode for Dackarna Malilla in the Swedish Elit League and for Włókniarz Częstochowa in the Polish Ekstraliga. In 2022, he helped PSŻ Poznań win the 2022 2.Liga. Awards For his sport achievements, he received: Golden Cross of Merit in 2007. Lars Gunnestad
Lars Gunnestad (born 18 February 1971 in Drammen, Norway) is a former Norwegian international motorcycle speedway rider. He won the Individual Speedway Norwegian Championship a record ten times. His son, Lars Daniel, is speedway rider also. Lars Daniel finished fifth in the 2009 Norwegian Championship. Career summary Gunnestad first came to prominence in 1988 when he won his first Norwegian title at the age of 17. His first British club was Sheffield in 1991, who competed in the British League Division Two. Gunnestad missed the British speedway season in 1992, but returned in 1993 when he was signed by British League team the Poole Pirates with whom he would spend this rest of his British career. Gunnestad became a popular rider at Poole and eventually received a testimonial meeting there in 2001. He appeared in five Speedway Grand Prix meetings as a wild card.
