Brian Hanley
Brian Hanley (born 1974) is an Irish hurling coach and former who played as a midfielder for the Athenry senior hurling team. Hanley enjoyed a successful playing career at club level with Athenry at the height of their power throughout the nineties. He was a midfielder with that team and collected three All-Ireland medals, seven Connacht medals and seven county club championship medals. In retirement from playing, Hanley has become involved in team management. At club level, he has served as manager and assistant with the Liam Mellows and Garrycastle senior teams. Hanley was appointed manager of the Westmeath senior hurling team in April 2011. Athenry GAA
St. Mary's, Athenry is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Athenry in County Galway, Ireland. In men's competitions, the club is a dual club competing in both Gaelic football and hurling at various age levels. The club also competes in camogie competitions, and has won several county, province and national titles in the sport. History Athenry GAA club was founded in 1885. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the club fielded both Gaelic football and hurling teams. The club also participated in Gaelic handball, handball competitions. While camogie was played locally from at least the 1920s, Athenry's camogie club was formally established in 1973. Hurling The club contested its first county final in 1977. Four Roads GAA
Four Roads Hurling Club are a hurling club from Co. Roscommon. They are the most successful team in the history of the Roscommon Senior Hurling Championship with 34 titles. They also won the Connacht Senior Club Hurling Championship in 1977 due to a walkover from Kiltormer and again 1988 when they defeated Abbeyknockmoy on a scoreline of 3-5 to 1-8. On both occasions of representing Connacht at the All-Ireland semi-final stage, they encountered Wexford opposition. First up was the star-studded Rathnure side of 1978 where they put in an impressive performance before going down by 2-20 to 2-8, and in 1989 they suffered defeat on a scoreline of 2-19 to 0-9 to eventual champions Buffers Alley. Michael Ryan (hurler, Born 1955)
Michael Ryan (born 9 August 1955) is a retired Irish hurler and Gaelic footballer who played in various positions for The Nire–Fourmilewater club teams. In retirement from playing Ryan became involved in team management. As manager and selector of the Waterford, Laois and Dublin inter-county teams he has won seven All-Ireland. With the Ballymacarbry ladies' football team Ryan won multiple All-Ireland club titles while he also gained a wealth of experience training various club teams in hurling. Ryan was the manager of the Waterford senior hurling team for the 2012 and 2013 seasons and took over as Westmeath senior hurling team manager in October 2014. National Hurling League
The National Hurling League is an annual Inter county, inter-county hurling competition featuring teams from Ireland and England. Founded in 1925 by the Gaelic Athletic Association, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation within the league system. The league has 35 teams divided into six divisions, with either five or six teams in each division. Promotion and relegation between these divisions is a central feature of the league. Although primarily a competition for Irish teams, teams from England – currently Lancashire GAA, Lancashire, London GAA, London and Warwickshire GAA, Warwickshire – also take part, while in the past New York GAA, New York also fielded a team for the latter stages of the league. Kevin Martin (hurler)
Kevin Martin (born 1973) is an Irish hurling manager and former player. His league and championship career with the Offaly senior team lasted ten seasons from 1993 until 2003. Born in Tullamore, County Offaly, Martin first played competitive hurling and Gaelic football at juvenile and underage levels with the Tullamore club. He later became a dual player at highest levels, winning two county football championship medals and one county hurling championship medal. Martin made his debut with the Offaly senior team during the 1993-94 league. Over the course of the following ten years he won All-Ireland medals in 1994 and 1998. Martin also won two Leinster medals and two All Star awards. He played his last game for Offaly in March 2003. Anthony Cunningham
Anthony Cunningham (born 16 June 1965) is a former hurler who has since managed various Gaelic football and hurling teams. He was manager of the Galway county hurling team between 2011 and 2015 and of the Roscommon county football team between 2018 and 2022. He is the only manager to lead a football team and a hurling team to provincial titles in two different provinces. Born in Peterswell, County Galway, Cunningham was raised in a hurling stronghold in the south of the county. He was a two-time Connacht medallist at colleges level with Our Lady's College while simultaneously joining the St Thomas's senior club team. Cunningham made his debut on the inter-county scene at the age of fifteen when he first linked up with the Galway minor team. James Stephens is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Kilkenny, Ireland. The club was founded in 1887 and has enjoyed equal success in both hurling and Gaelic football.
