Brian Gavin (referee)
Brian Gavin (born 13 July 1977) is an Irish hurling referee. Career A native of Clara, County Offaly, Gavin is one of the sport's top referees and officiated at All-Ireland finals in minor, under-21, and the senior final in 2011. Hurling
Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. The objective of the game is for players to use an ash wood stick called a hurley (in Irish a ', pronounced or ) to hit a small ball called a ' between the opponent's goalposts either over the crossbar for one point or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points. Clara, County Offaly
Clara () is a town on the River Brosna in County Offaly and is the 10th largest town in the midlands of Ireland. The town had a population of 3,336 as of the 2016 census. Clara's local services include churches, banks, credit union, schools, supermarkets, shops, garages, pubs, nightclubs and restaurants. The Kilkenny County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (Kilkenny GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Cill Chainnigh) is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Kilkenny. Tommy Walsh (hurler, Born 1983)
Thomas Walsh (born 5 May 1983) is an Irish hurler who played as a right wing-back at senior level for the Kilkenny county team. Born in Tullaroan, County Kilkenny, Walsh first played competitive hurling during his schooling at St Kieran's College. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Kilkenny minor team, before later joining the under-21 side. He joined the senior panel during the 2002 championship. Walsh became a regular member of the starting fifteen the following year, and won nine All-Ireland medals (two as a non-playing substitute), ten Leinster medals and seven National League medals. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on two occasions. At international level Walsh has played for the composite rules shinty-hurling team, captaining his country to the title in 2009.
