BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Cars National Points Championship
The National Points Championship is a season-long competition for BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Cars. The winner is granted the honour of racing with a silver roof for the following season. History The first season-long championship started in 1956. Drivers' scores at every stock car meeting were recorded to create the championship table. During the late 1990s, when Frankie Wainman Junior dominated, there was criticism that the National Points Championship was predictable and favoured drivers who had the money to race at as many meetings as possible. The National Series was created in 2002. Rather than the points accumulated over the entire season counting towards the winner, the National Series was competed for over 35 designated meetings. The season-long National Points Championship survived, but its importance was downgraded, and the privilege of racing with a silver roof for the following season was transferred from it to the National Series. BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Cars
BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Cars is a class of single-seater stock-car-racing in the UK with custom-built cars, with races conducted on walled oval tracks of either shale or tarmac of approximately a quarter-mile in length. The cars are of an open wheel design. The cars may be of any horsepower and drivers can use any engine they choose, with Chevrolet based small or big block V8 engines being the most popular. The season runs from March through to November, with occasional meetings during Christmas time. Frankie Wainman Junior (born 6 October 1971) is a BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Cars racing driver, who races using the number 515. Wainman is a three-time BriSCA F1 BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Cars World Championship, World Champion, fourteen-time BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Cars National Points Championship, National Points Champion and nine-time British Champion along with many other titles. Early life Wainman was brought up in the small town of Silsden, West Yorkshire. He is the son of former racer Frankie Wainman (racing number 212). John Lund (born 12 January 1954) is a BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Cars racing driver from Rimington, Lancashire who races under number 53. Lund is one of the most successful stock car drivers of all time and holds the current record for the most World Championship wins. Biography Lund started racing in 1976, debuting at Rochdale on 28 March. He progressed to star grade in 1977, and to superstar in 1981. In 1985, Lund started racing two cars, one for shale ovals, one for tarmac. This helped catapult him to the very top of the sport. In 1987 Lund won his first major title, the British Championship. He completed a sweep of the top three major championships when he won the World Championship at Belle Vue Stadium and the National Points Championship in the same year, the third person to achieve this feat. Harrison is a former World Champion and one of the most recognisable figures in the sport. Early life Harrison was born on 4 April 1969 in Rotherham. His father, Willie Harrison, was a popular Formula 1 Stock Car racing driver. Rob Speak (born 14 March 1972) is a racing driver from Tyldesley, Greater Manchester, he’s one of the most successful drivers in BriSCA Formula 2 Stock Cars history. He has won the National Points Championship eleven times in succession and the World Championship eight times ( 6 in a row) . Paul Hines (born 3 December 1980) is a BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Cars racing driver from Hinckley, Leicestershire who races under number 259. Biography Hines first started racing in V8 Hotstox. He switched to BriSCA F1 in 2002, debuting in a borrowed car at Skegness Stadium on 14 July. He bought his first car to race the following season, and worked his way through the grades to finish 18th in the National Points Championship. His first major championship success came in 2005, when he won the European Championship at Northampton. He won the British Championship at Skegness in 2010.
