Brent Ross
Brent Ross (born September 30, 1970) is a Canadian curler from Harriston, Ontario. He currently plays third for Team Dayna Deruelle on the World Curling Tour. Career Early in his career, Ross won the Ontario Colts Championship in 1997. Ross skipped his own rink on the World Curling Tour until 2007, when he joined the Jake Higgs rink, playing third on the team for the 2007–08 season, and then throwing fourth rocks (with Higgs throwing third) until 2014. The team played in their first Grand Slam of Curling event at the 2010 Players' Championship, where they lost all of their games. The next season, they played in the 2010 World Cup of Curling (now known as the Masters), going 2-3 and at the January 2011 Canadian Open, going 2-3 again. They didn't play in any slams during the 2011–12 season, but won the Barrie Sleeman Cash Spiel on the Ontario Curling Tour. Curling
Curling is a sport in which players slide stones on a sheet of ice toward a target area which is segmented into four concentric circles. It is related to bowls, boules, and shuffleboard. Two teams, each with four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called ''rocks'', across the ice ''curling sheet'' toward the ''house'', a circular target marked on the ice. Each team has eight stones, with each player throwing two. The purpose is to accumulate the highest score for a ''game''; points are scored for the stones resting closest to the centre of the house at the conclusion of each ''end'', which is completed when both teams have thrown all of their stones once. A game usually consists of eight or ten ends. The player can induce a curved path, described as ''curl'', by causing the stone to slowly rotate as it slides. Ontario Curling Tour
The Ontario Curling Tour is a group of curling bonspiels, which takes places in Ontario, Canada and attracts some of the top male and female curlers in the province, and from across the country and world. The OCT was designed to promote competitive curling from a grass root level. The events for the Ontario Curling Tour begin at the end of August and typically run until December, with occasional events taking place in January. Several of the events on the Ontario Curling Tour are also included in the World Curling Tour. All events on the Ontario Curling Tour, much like those on World Curling Tour, contain a prize purse for the winning teams, and award CTRS (Canadian Team Ranking System) points to the Canadian teams competing. 2013 Canadian Olympic Curling Pre-Trials
The qualification event for the 2013 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials (branded as the Capital One Road to the Roar for sponsorship reasons), was held from November 5 to 10 at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex in Kitchener, Ontario. The top two finishers of the men's and women's events qualified to participate in the 2013 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials. The teams played in a triple-knockout tournament where four teams qualified for the playoff round. The first two qualifiers and second two qualifiers played against each other, and the winner of the first game advanced to the Trials. The loser of the first game then played the winner of the second game to determine the second team that would advance to the Trials. The 2012 Canadian Open of Curling was held from December 12 to 16 at Prospera Place in Kelowna, British Columbia as part of the 2012–13 World Curling Tour. 2012 The Masters Grand Slam Of Curling – Men's Event
The men's event of the 2012 Masters Grand Slam of Curling was held from November 14 to 18 at the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre, the Brantford Golf & Curling Club and the Brant Curling Club in Brantford, Ontario as part of the 2012–13 World Curling Tour. Some of the men's Tier I round robin games were held at the Brantford Golf & Curling Club, while the remainder of the Tier I games and the playoffs round games were held at the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre. The men's Tier II games and playoffs qualifiers were held at the Brant Curling Club. It was held as the first Grand Slam event on the men's tour. The 2011 BDO Canadian Open of Curling was held from January 26–30 at the General Motors Centre in Oshawa, Ontario. This event was the third men's Grand Slam event in the 2010-11 curling season. The purse for this event was CAD$100,000. 18 men's teams will be playing for eight quarterfinal spots in a round-robin competition. The competition was marked by an interesting turn of events when the Thomas Ulsrud rink failed to win a game against Peter Corner. Team Ulsrud's loss created an eight-way tie in 2–3 win–loss records, prompting a draw shot challenge and the scheduling of two tiebreakers. Team Ulsrud, as well as Team Corner, Team Middaugh, and Team Higgs, failed to advance in the draw shot challenge, leaving Team Epping, Team Fowler, Team Bice and Team Walchuk to participate in the tiebreakers. Harriston, Ontario
Harriston (population 1,797) is a community in the Town of Minto in Wellington County, Ontario, Canada. In 1999, Harriston was amalgamated with the communities of Palmerston, Clifford, and Minto Township to form the Town of Minto. Harriston is located at the headwaters of the Maitland River, and has several shops, restaurants, a library, an art gallery and cultural centre. History In the summer of 1845, the first non-Aboriginal settlers arrived in the area. The Crown did not make land available for sale in the region until 1854. The town was named after Archibald Harrison, a Toronto farmer who was granted land along the Maitland River in Minto Township, at the Elora and Saugeen Road in 1854.
