Brendan Lowry
Brendan Lowry (born 11 July 1959) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played for his local club Ferbane and at senior level for the Offaly county team from 1981 until 1992. Lowry scored 0–3 to help his team to victory in the 1982 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final, the most recent occasion that Offaly won the Sam Maguire Cup. His brothers Mick and Seán also played in the 1982 All-Ireland SFC winning side. Lowry managed the Westmeath senior team between 1997 and 2000. He received a controversial six-month ban (which was later lifted) after protesting against a tackle on Dessie Dolan in the 2000 O'Byrne Cup final. His son Shane is a professional golfer, who won the 2009 Irish Open and the 2019 Open Championship at Portrush. Ferbane GAA
Ferbane/Belmont GAA is a football club in the Gaelic Athletic Association located in Ferbane in County Offaly, Ireland, 13 miles from Birr. The Ferbane GAA field is located in the town of Ferbane on the Ballycumber Road. Ferbane play in the Offaly championship. Ferbane holds the record for the club with the longest continuous sponsorship deal in Gaelic football. Honours Football Ferbane enjoyed most of their success in the '80s and start of '90s where they won a 5 in a row of Offaly Senior Football Championship titles from 1986–90 and also a Leinster Senior Club Football Championship title in 1986 beating Portlaoise. Dessie Dolan
Dessie Dolan (born 11 July 1979) is an Irish Gaelic football manager who has been manager of the senior Westmeath county team since 2022. He played for the Garrycastle club and for the Westmeath county team, as well as international rules football for Ireland. He won a Leinster Senior Football Championship medal with Westmeath in 2004 and was given an All Star at the end of the year. He was his county's highest championship scorer until John Heslin overtook him in the 2022 Tailteann Cup Final (for which Dolan was a selector). Playing career University Dolan played football for NUI Galway while studying at the team's parent university. Ferbane Gaelic Footballers
Ferbane (; ) is a town on the north bank of the River Brosna in County Offaly, Ireland, between Birr and Athlone at the junction of the N62 National secondary road and the R436 regional road. The name of the town is said to come from the white bog cotton which grows in the surrounding Bog of Allen. Ireland's first milled-peat fired power station was commissioned by the Electricity Supply Board (ESB) at Ferbane in 1957. Since the station's closure in 2001, the Shannon Development agency and the ESB have invested €1.4 million in a new business and technology park which opened in 2005. 2019 Open Championship
The 2019 Open Championship was the 148th Open Championship, played at Royal Portrush Golf Club in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It was the second Open Championship at Portrush, which last hosted in 1951, won by Max Faulkner. Royal Portrush saw major alterations in preparation for the tournament, including replacing two of the holes. Shane Lowry won his first major title by six strokes over Tommy Fleetwood. The Irish Open (currently known as the Horizon Irish Open for sponsorship reasons) () is a professional golf tournament on the European Tour. The Irish Open was first played in 1927 and was played annually, except for the war years, until 1950. There was a tournament in 1953, but the event was then not played again until revived in 1975. It has been contested annually since then. From 1963 to 1974 Carroll's sponsored a tournament, generally called the Carroll's International and in 1975 they became the sponsor of the Irish Open which became known as the Carroll's Irish Open. The Westmeath county football team represents Westmeath in men's Gaelic football and is governed by Westmeath GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association.
