With the gambler unable to get directly involved, Gloria Lee, who is Joe's girlfriend, acts as the horse's official new owner when Galaxy is entered in a race. Steve is still the trainer, but quits after Joe fixes the race by bribing a jockey to disrupt Galaxy's race. Milton Carruth
Milton Carruth (March 23, 1899 – September 7, 1972) was an American film editor and, for a period in the 1930s, film director. Among the 129 films he edited are '' All Quiet on the Western Front'' (directed by Lewis Milestone, 1930 (silent version)), '' Shadow of a Doubt'' (directed by Alfred Hitchcock, 1943), ''Pillow Talk'' (directed by Michael Gordon, 1959), and '' Imitation of Life'' (directed by Douglas Sirk, 1959). His career as an editor spanned nearly four decades, from 1929 through 1966 (''The Pad and How to Use It'' (directed by Brian G. Hutton, 1966). In 1937 and 1938, he directed seven films: '' Love Letters of a Star'', '' She's Dangerous'', '' Breezing Home'', '' The Man in Blue'', '' Reported Missing!'', '' The Lady Fights Back'' and '' Some Blondes Are Dangerous''. Alma Kruger (September 13, 1871 – April 5, 1960) was an American actress. Career Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1871 (or 1868 according to other sources), Kruger had a long career on stage before appearing in films. From 1907 to 1935, she featured in theatre plays on Broadway, mostly in Shakespearean plays such as ''Hamlet'' (as Gertrude), ''Twelfth Night'' (as Olivia), ''Taming of the Shrew'' (Widow), and ''The Merchant of Venice'' (Nerissa). William Best (May 27, 1913 – February 27, 1962), known professionally as Willie Best or Sleep n' Eat, was an American television and film actor. Best was one of the first African American film actors and comedians to become well known. In the 21st century, his work, like that of Stepin Fetchit, is sometimes reviled because he was often called upon to play stereotypically lazy, illiterate, and/or simple-minded characters in films. Of the 124 films he appeared in, he received screen credit in at least 77, an unusual feat for an African American bit player. Alan Edwin Baxter (November 19, 1908 – May 7, 1976) was an American film and television actor. Early years Baxter was born in East Cleveland, Ohio. He earned a bachelor's degree from Williams College, where he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity and a classmate of Elia Kazan. He went on to study in the 47 Drama Workshop at Yale University. Stage After he completed his studies, Baxter became a member of the Group Theatre in New York City.
